I had forgotten that Ireland gets hurricanes. It's not that common, but does happen and living on the South West Coast means that where we are is more susceptible. It's been EONS since I've had to worry about them at all.

On the positive side, no more earthquakes, mud slides or wildfires.

ETA: Ireland gets Cyclones and Tornadoes too. Party.
Looks like it's turning north west away from us and is now being downgraded to a Cat 1 before hitting land up near the Panhandle. I will still keep an eye on it, because the worst hurricane that has hit since i moved here 17 years ago wasn't forecast to hit us, but I am relieved.

If you ever need to evacuate Ireland you can come to Florida and stay with me.

Well, the latest track puts it right over our area and they are saying 15 inches of rain where I live. I am VERY concerned about flooding.

I'm glad the event I was supposed to work in Jacksonville, this weekend, was canceled. There is no way I'm driving in a tropical storm and potentially not being able to find gas.
It was bad driving across the causeway today. The wind was blowing and people were jerking back into their lanes.

I saw this on an article about whether a lot of people will leave Florida after Hurricane Ian. I thought it was a very apt description of what happens during a hurricane for those that have never been through the process-from initial forecast of the hurricane to the aftermath.

Yep. Same with blizzards, ice storms etc. Only you freeze to death because you have no heat. The good news is your food won't go bad, but if you put it outside you end up with all of it frozen lol. We would get the hurricanes too so it was all kinds of fun throughout the year.

Greetings from Hoth. On Sunday it was 60 and lovely in every way. Yesterday it cooled off and started to drizzle. Today it's 16 and the wind is 44mph with occasional gusts in the 60mph range. We still have power and all the good stuff that goes with it. Heat, light, and WiFi. But they claim things are going to go downhill as the day goes on (how can that even be possible?) Various sources predict we'll get between 6" and 2 feet of snow. I Yi Yi!
This is (was) finals week at our campus. They announced, Friday, that Tuesday and Wednesday finals would be remote, but kept the Monday finals in person. Why? They knew the storm was expected to hit Monday night. Why not let people head home on Friday when the weather was great? As it is, some people had finals yesterday evening, after the roads all across the state had transmorphed into skating rinks and the wind was coming on strong. I just hope the stupidity didn't end up killing people.

    Anyway...

Greetings from Ireland where people are losing their shit over a cold snap. It's been the coldest it's ever been in over a decade, but they're all talking about government emergencies and shit

Yes for the homeless and those that can't afford heat, but 20 degrees Fahrenheit isn't that big of a deal for me. Everyone expected me to be flipping out with this cold coming from L.A. but they forgot that I'm from Massachusetts, Bitches.....

    Pussies.

Here's the 10-day forecast for where we live now. Funny thing is the heat here is so much easier to handle than it was where we moved from.

Where are you living now? I think you mentioned it but I forgot.

It's getting hot here, too. Supposed to be 112 on Sunday, yikes.

It's currently thundering and raining over here.
Hopefully Idalia will be nice to us tomorrow.
Stay safe RBW and all the alligators in Florida.

We have blue skies and sunshine here in the Orlando area. Looks like it might be coming right up your way, although I never fully trust their projections after getting hit so hard from Hurricane Irma after it was projected to only skirt the west coast. Stay safe!

Isn't there now a second hurricane heading towards Florida from the Atlantic Ocean?

Not right now, but that could change in 5 minutes. Hurricane Franklin is a monster but it is far east of the coast and headed up towards Bermuda.

I am a bit concerned that some of the spaghetti models have Idalia looping back around after passing over Jacksonville, and hitting Florida again. They show it dropping to a tropical storm but if it goes back out over the Atlantic for any period of time it will re-strengthen if it doesn't fall apart once it hits land. That worries me.

One thing from living most of my life in FL has taught me...those tropical storms/hurricanes like to make surprise turns.

Yeah, the first 10 years we were here we only had one tropical storm to deal with. We have had a hurricane or tropical storm (or multiple) to deal with every year since 2016. But don't worry, there's no climate change.

CC-It looks like they've upped the strength category for when it hits your area. Hope it actually dies out instead, but be careful!
