    Female Serial Killers

The ones that interest me most are:

Nannie Doss AKA The Giggling Granny.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nannie_Doss

Nannie Doss (born November 4, 1905[1] – June 2, 1965[2]) was a serial killer responsible for the deaths of eleven people between the 1920s and 1954.[3] She finally confessed to the murders in October 1954, when her fifth husband had died in a small hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In all, it was revealed that she had killed four husbands, two children, her two sisters, her mother, a grandson and a nephew. She has been given the monikers "The Giggling Nanny", "The Giggling Granny" and "The Jolly Black Widow".

    And:

    Bell Gunness:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Gunness
Born in 1859, her she was responsible for the killings of more than 20 suitors and all of her children. Bell was famous for burning down homes and collecting the insurance money for the properties and her dead husbands. She then placed advertisements in the newspaper, luring prospective suitors to her home and then killing them by poison. She buried the bodies on her farm and in the hog pen. Her whereabouts today is still unknown.  Picture of Bell and her children.

I used to have nightmares about Nannie Doss sticking a hatpin into her newborn grandson's head.

Belle Gunness is the one that intrigues me the most.

    Most obvious first.....

    Aileen Wournos:

Born Aileen Carol Pittman, February 29th, 1936. A prostitute who went on a killing spree, killing seven men, claiming it was in self defense from rape. She was convicted and sentenced to death by lethal injection on October 9th, 2002. She was charge with the death of all seven men.

    Next.....

    Marybeth Tinning:

She was convicted for killing nine of her own children by strangulation. One by one should would bring her children into the hospital in an almost dead like state, claiming that they had just stopped breathing. Doctors believed the cause to be genetic until her adoptive son Michael was brought in by her in the same unconscious like state. Since Michael was adopted the theory of the Tinnings family deaths being the result of genetics was soon discarded. Suspicion mounted against Tinnings but there was no evidence. She then confessed to the authorities, which she contracted later. On the 17th of July, 1987, she was sentenced to life in prison. She is currently incarcerated at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility in Bedford New York.

Aileen Wuornos was doomed from birth.  If there were truly such a thing as a waste of a life, hers was it.  Fucked up from start to finish.  She didn't stand a chance.

Theres a school of thought that Aileen Wuornos is probably the closest female to the psychology of  a male serial killer in terms of motivation and method.
Most female serial killers prey on the weak and on family members. Its not the same motivators of sexual sadism that drives them, with perhaps the "exception" of Wuornos.

I'm actually reading a book called "Deadlier than the Male" which is about women killers. Nanny Doss is in there as well as Mary Ann Cotton & Christine Falling. Its pretty interesting.

I just posted a Ted thread. I found this interesting quote:

In a letter written shortly before his escape from the Glenwood Springs jail, Bundy said "I have known people who...radiate vulnerability. Their facial expressions say 'I am afraid of you.' These people invite abuse... By expecting to be hurt, do they subtly encourage it?"

Well then he should have simply asked "Would you like to be murdered by me?"  What a rude fuck to just assume the scared wanted to be killed

I'm interested in why most of these female serial killers are all about the family and their children

    Re: Female Serial Killers

I've read about a few other killers who said their victims glowed or lit up to them, which I think is a different way of pereceiving that 'victim' state.

I used to get stalked a hideous amount by several ex's but then I read about stalking and people vunerable to it and actively changed my behaviour to not be a stalking victim.  Worked wonderfuly and also got rid of the mad ones you always get on trains.  Women can be too polite and helpful and kind for their own good.

I think it's got something to do with accessibility. Even Wournos' victims were accessible to her due to her being a hooker and all.

I think part of it is gender roles.
Women are socialized differently and have a different sense of what is power and what is needed. ( gerneralities of course)
Men in general are socialized to be more aggressive and issues of dominance are deep seated themes.
Men are the ones who develop into the conventional understandings of rapists and get off on hurting others or murdering them ( Jonelle?)
I need Bowie to be my translator because I do not have the expressive language skills to explain this well but I promise, its all in my head

It varies subject to subject but women killers often kill for a purpose that furthers an end. Their role as caretakers also allows them access to enact their aggressive instincts against the people entrusted to them.

I guess she isn't classified as a serial killer but this one always gets to me when I read about it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diane_Downs

Tried to kill her kids (killed 1 of the 3, the oldest testified against her) so she could run off with her boyfriend, who didn't want children.
