Yes, it has gotten (is gotten a word?) so much worse this season. The house with the possum and rats and those bugs Ive never seen before.
Even worse was that Canadian woman with that 7 year old daughter who is now suicidal because she hates living in a dirty house.

Well, what they sort of skipped was that the little girl wasn't suicidal over that. She was suicidal over her mom's borderline bi polar issues. The house was just a physical manifestation of that problem, and unfortunately, what the therapist was saying was that the little girl most likely has similar mental issues to her mother, and they're just showing up more because of the house.
Like when the mom was throwing things away, it was a very standard manic episode where she was just going fucking NUTS. And she was saying she doesn't have the ability to listen to her kids because it overwhelms her. Like, that woman needed some serious help and I was glad the family pursued therapy. Watching the people with kids is heartbreaking. They think because they aren't whipping their children that they're not abusing them. But kids living in squalor with disease-riddled bedrooms contaminated by vermin is very abusive.
The woman in the rerun last night who looked like a troll from Fraggle Rock, the one whose kids were taken by social service, literally said, "I am more upset about the animals because I know I will see the kids again." Like, I am sorry, but that is fucking insane. That is horrible. She seemed like she had good intentions, but jesus. You think her kids don't know she feels that way?

This is so true. Like that woman in Hawaii on the season opener. They threatened to take her kids away and she goes into mama bear mode, yet shes letting her daughter sleep in a sleeping bag with her father on the floor because they have no where else to sleep

It's sad, but it's because once the kids are out of the house, they don't care as much about them. Within the house, they feel the same anxiety and attachment to them as they do to an old moldy pizza box. They are a part of the collection.
The episodes with adult kids have kids reiterating this sentiment over and over.

My MIL is a slight hoarder. She has a thing about not throwing away paper. She probably has 5 non-working phones in the garage, and 20 boxes of books that nobody even reads. I throw shit away every week and she doesn't even notice.

I gagged and almost threw up when they showed the "10 years of poop bags" I can't imagine how some of those people that don't live in the house can go in without gagging in some of the houses. I wouldn't be able to help myself. My cousin had like 10 cats and it smelled so bad of ammonia that I nearly died gagging every time we went in. Now, I often wonder the ammonia level of their place. The kids smelled like they lived in a meth house, they reeked of cat pee so bad.

A guy I work with lives in an upscale neighborhood in Rio Rancho, which is an outskirt of Albuquerque. The neighborhood is only 22 years old and his family is the only family to ever live in the house. Same with the lady next door. He was telling me that the stench coming from this womans house was so bad that the entire block petitioned to get her evicted. when they finally did, they had to gut the thing because of all the mold. The construction worker said they found 12 dead cats, 3 dead dogs and countless dead mice. There was a layer of trash 6 inches thick. Also the stench coming from the house left a grease layer on HIS house. Fuckin Nasty Yo. you never know whos living down the street. Between This and worlds worst tenants, I side eye the fuck out of all my neighbors. I trust no one.
I can remember watching an episode of Hoarders (an, as in ONE episode) when we were staying at a hotel near the Mall of America during our move from ND to NC. I just remember being in shock at first, then laughing hysterically with my husband because it looked like Mr. Hanky of South Park had visited this one lady's house and hopped all over anything white that she owned. It was cat shit. We still occasionally talk about Cat Shit Lady when the laundry piles up in our house.
I hope no one gets pissed I bumped this thread. I am watching my first episode of Hoarders. OMG! I will admit, I do not have a spotless home, but it is not dirty, it's messy. I have 3 kids living at home and none of them pick up after themselves. My fault. So, Hoarders. This woman lost her kids because of her living conditions. She has so many pets, Animal Control came in and said she could only keep 5 pets. She is crying because she always knew she would get her kids back someday, but she'll never get the pets back. WTF? The house was disgusting. I swear, I think I smell it! It was that visual for me I had flashes of a horrible smell. The clean up crew said that anything on the floor gets thrown out. I'm afraid what's under all of that crap! Gross. How could someone let their house get so bad, they lose their kids?

Ugh! Don't even get me started on those "hoarders"...... It literally makes me angry when I watch it!! Most of those so-called hoarders are not hoarders... They're lazy fuckin slobs! Sure they may have mental issues or whatever... But most of them know that living in a house with piles of literal shit is NOT normal... So clean that shit up for fuck sakes!
There is a lazy factor in it but there is a serious mental deficiency in these people too. My mom grew up in deplorable conditions and even tho she never got to 'hoarder' level, she had a helluva hard time having basic normal living places. I grew up with clutter and ever since I have been on my own, I seriously cannot have clutter. If there is any piles of anything around, it makes me anxious. It's too much for my head.
I think once it gets to a certain point for these people, it's just wayyy too much. I go on cleaning sprees in my house and throw sooo much shit away. I like minimal amounts of things.
