While i do feel what people are saying is true, that methods of suicide can easily be found online and he can argue that under freedom of speech.  I wonder if him forming fake 'suicide pacts' with people would make them more likely to not back out of killing themselves, because they aren't 'alone' in it?  I'm sure a good lawyer can argue there way out of that one too, But it does make him a little more responsible in the deaths, as he isn't just helping them decide on a method.. He's making them feel more comfortable with the idea of suicide.

For most people that have seriously considered suicide, they already have a healthy obsession with doing it. They have a comfort level with thinking about it, and in some cases is a comfort to know that they 'have that option'.

Usually when someone speaks out about their thoughts of suicide it means they are going to do it. Now I have never participated in a suicide website, but I am going to venture and say that most of the people on their just want comfort, someone to relate to, vent with. While others might be more set on their goal. Either way, even if anyone took anything that troll had to say into consideration, it had nothing to do with him. At the end of the day, suicide is self inflicted. You can choose to fight the nasty fight we all have to, or you are going to opt out.

Here's a total longshot, just throwing it out there...

since he's a nurse, does he have some kind of duty to report talking to someone who talks about suicide?  Or is that just doctors, or child cases?

Aside from that, his lisence was revoked already. Techincally he was just an asshole assuming a female nurse roll online.

This guy obviously has no morals, but I don't think that what he did was criminal. I think that if a person is going to kill themselves, it's going to take a whole lot more than a stranger to convince them. If anything I could see him arguing that he told them how do it in a less painful way.

I don't like that freedom of speech is being tested.

Thanks lozz  i have just email in minneapolis police with the email, it probably won't help but you never know.
I feel so cheated because i shared all my secret feelings with what i thought was a female friend who understood. I really shouldn't have been so trusting but i suppose i was vaunerable at the time...this has made me realise...don't trust anyone!
    [/quote]
I recieved an email from the police, he asked me to ring but im in the u.k and this is in the u.s and i'm skint! so he sent me this...

Could you please email me as much information as you can remember from your contact with Melchert-Dinkel (Li Dao)? From there I will be able to determine whether we need to follow-up with another type of interview. Also, if you still have an email from him--could you please copy the email onto a word document, to include full email header information, and attach it to the email? Thanks.

Just trying to understand, you believe these people would not have searched for these ways regardless? It was the play by play from this one person that sent these people running to actually kill themselves?

While I think this guy is sick and perverse for doing what he was doing, that's giving him a shitload of credit for something that you have to do yourself.

You are doing the right thing.

While I don't think he is responsible for the suicides of others (they have to be the ones to make that decision) he surely didn't do anything to help them.  I am glad you are still here lulupop.

What a sick fuck.  He isn't messing with just *any* people, he's messing with people who are already hurting and depressed.

That being said, I unfortunately have to lean on the side of free speech.  Even dickwads have a right to talk out their ass about whatever, and that info was most likely readily available elsewhere on the internet.  :|

I dunno about the free speech thing you guys.

I can say "America sucks" all I please. But when I instruct someone how to make a bomb, and give them floor plans of JFK airport, then I am doing something wrong. This guy needs to be locked up. This is NOT what free speech is about. It's about being able to speak out against the government, or practice your religion, or display pornography. Not to show sick people how to die. Fuck this guy. Lock him up.

Actually, I would say what he's doing is much closer to yelling fire in a crowded theater, which isn't protected under freedom of speech as its sole purpose is to instigate panic and cause harm.

The scenario you posted is what, conspiracy most likely, yeah?  Is there a conspiracy charge they could string him up on?  I'd say murder, but you don't call it "murdering yourself".

I really do see both sides.  When the free speech people say something, I get it.  When the lock-the-bastard-up people say something, I totally get that.  Glad I'm not on the jury, because I'd want him to fry but idk if that's what should happen.

When your "information" becomes instruction that leads to something immoral, it's just fucked up. Hopefully it'll be illegal too though. I don't see where free speech comes in here. I can talk about a lot of shit, but you can't give someone crime instructions and not be held culpable.

Freedom of speech. You're doing it wrong.

So when there is a suicide pact between 2 people, and one happens to survive, the suriving one should be charged with murder of some sort?

Lets be honest, this would be red-flagged and you'd be taken down from the Feds within an hour if that were the case.

I think maybe you are forgetting that the people on there are dealing with wanting to commit suicide or have possibly an unhealthy obsession with it. While he does need some serious psychological help, maybe within a padded cell, suicide is self-inflicted, preventable when the person wants help. Depression is a serious illness, I am going out on a long shot and say that the people who host websites for suicidal people do their best to help others, the people who want to live hopefully are able to get the help they deserve and need. And then there are the people who are determined. Reading instructions all day long, planning carefully their last day.

It's not, "Hey, this dude just told me the missing piece of info that gives me the ability to kill myself." It's more like... "I have researched this exhaustingly and I have made my preparations and I am out."

Please don't give this asshole more credit.

I dont want to give this fucker credit - but people are rrsponsible for what they say and do, including this douchenozzle. Theres a world of difference between free speech and inciting a mentally compromised person to do violence to themselves or others.

Without the ability to read his posts we know that:

    a) He impersonated himself as a female nurse and gave advice to people where he is cleary not qualified.

    b) He himself had his license revoked as a registered nurse for mental issues regarding suicide.

I am not saying that he is not or should not be responsible for his actions, I am saying this fool was sick to begin with, he belongs in a straight jacket. He was openly pro-suicide and admitted it was a fetish for him. Yeah, I am gonna say that it should have been taken more seriously when a registered nurse has these issues. Free speach really has nothing to do with it. Ultimately if he was saying anything on a suicide board that was encouraging people, I have a strong feeling their board moderators would put some type of end to that.
