Guinea pig saves dog at shelter

    http://cumberlink.com/articles/2007/01/09/news/news833.txt

A “resident” guinea pig at the West Shore shelter of the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area received a hero’s praise recently, credited with saving the life of a choking puppy by alerting staff.

Staff members heard frantic squealing and shuffling from the cage of Snowball, an albino guinea pig that shares space in a hallway with Bianca, a deaf white pit bull mixed puppy.

When staff arrived, they discovered that Bianca had tried to escape her crate by wedging her head through the door. When she became caught, she started choking and struggling to remain conscious. Bianca was quickly released from the crate door and is now fine.

“The dog got lots of hugs, gave us lots of kisses, and the hero enjoyed two carrots,” said Claudi Luci, an HSHA volunteer.

I volunteer at this place.  Still not a big guinea pig fan.  :)

That's a cute story, well done little guinea pig.

I think it deserves a bravery award!

I love that!  My daughter had a guinea pig for years, but it finally died last year. I was kinda glad it was gone...poor guy.

My friends daughters hamster died on Christmas Eve.
It was stiff as a board, she was scared of touching it so she poked it with a pen and then she threw the cage and everything in the bin.
Her daughter only noticed that Hammy wasn't there anymore yesterday, lmao.

Heyy...I'm 23 and adore hamsters! Guniea pigs..not so much.

IMO kids shouldnt even be allowed to have them. They're so tiny and easily lost/hurt..I cant begin to tell you the horror stories I've heard of hamsters dying from neglect due to a child owning one.

But what an adorable story this was.

    Reminds me of a joke.....

A little Irish boy asks his Grandpa O’Brien, “Can I have $5 to buy a guinea pig?”

“Here,” says the old man as he hands the boy a $10 bill. “Go get yourself a nice Irish girl instead.”

I used to have a couple of guinea pigs... they're so sweet...

But I don't know, guinea pigs start squealing pretty easily... but whatever...

    I mean,

What a nice pig! What a hero! Lucky dog!

My sister and I used to keep guineas....we'd sit them in the driver and passenger seat of our barbie convertible and push them around the house. They loved it. No, seriously, they did....one time we put in my sisters guinea and my ratty and we took heaps of pictures coz they just sat there, all happy and content...they didnt mind one bit.

What's funny about guinea pigs is that their facial expression ranges from blank stare to terrified. I love that about them. You can tell they're terrified when their eyes bug out a little. Like when you check to see their gender. It's funny shit.
