Nearly 19 months after she allegedly killed fire marshal husband, Janet Redmond-Mercereau will be sentenced in Staten Island Supreme Court this afternoon.
The Oakwood mom was found guilty in May of fatally shooting Douglas Mercereau while he slept on Dec. 2, 2007. She faces up to life in prison when Justice Robert J. Collini sentences her at 2:15 p.m. in the St. George courtroom.
The victim's brother, Jim Mercereau, will read a victim impact statement.
"It feels good," Jim Mercereau said as he gave a thumbs-up after the verdict was read two months ago.
Prosecutors described Mrs. Mercereau as "a volcano" and someone who held a grudge, and that she let complaints about her weight and lazy housekeeping fester until she murdered him in a cold-blooded execution.
Defense attorneys, however, maintain her innocence and have said they will appeal.
