COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Authorities said a Virginia man confessed to robbing a South Carolina bank on his MySpace page.
Joseph Wade Northington, 27, pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to using a firearm to rob a North Augusta bank.
Officials said the crime happened just after noon on Jan. 20 at the Security Federal Bank. They said Northington got away with $3,924.
After surveillance pictures of the robbery were aired on the news, authorities said a man notified them saying he recognized Northington from the photos. They said the man told them that Northington stayed with him on the date of the robbery but had since gone back to Virginia.
Investigators said they learned Northington had a MySpace page, and they discovered he posted the following message after the robbery; "On tha run for robbin a bank. Love all of ya'll."
Northington was arrested in Virginia nine days later.
He will be sentenced at a later date. The maximum penalty he can receive is a fine of $250,000 and imprisonment for a minimum of seven years and a maximum of life.
