Brittanee is from a town next to the one I live in. The local news have been covering this heavily all week. I really hope they are able to find her and to give her family peace.

McClellenville is where the conference was held. (the population is about 500)
They specifically said they believe she was killed there.
    http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/new...e82525472.html
“We do know that Brittanee was in this community for several days. It wasn’t just a one-time passing through so by being here for several days other people came in contact with her, saw her, knew that she was here so we know that there is information in the community here,” Thomas said, asking anyone with even the smallest detail to come forward.
The officials used a bunch of words that makes you think there are several people involved in Brittanee's murder. Even mom used words like "killers"
The one dude kept emphasizing the consequences of not coming forward....then the FBI promises that if that person comes forward they will protect them.

Maybe she was taken to that area and held/sexually abused for several days by several people? Then they killed her and dumped her body in that wildlife reserve out there?

my guess (and that of my neighbor who likes to discuss everything with me whenever she she's me out with Rudy in the mornings) is that the authorities know exactly who they're targeting and they're trying to get the weakest link to give up the details.

Damn it. I was really hoping they had found Brittanee's remains.

I'm going to hold onto hope that they are strategically fishing for information and this isn't just another 'presumed murdered' cold case.

It really does sound like they already know who was involved in this. I wonder if the reason they announced the press conference so far in advance was because they were hoping to smoke somebody out?

I want to know how they put whatever pieces they have together? Hell, I just wanna know the pieces. Obviously they won't tell us yet. Still wonder if the flippant dude who "wasn't her babysitter" was involved. Being a club promoter in NY (yes I know it wasn't NYC) seems within the realm of possibility he has connections all over the place.

There was a middle aged guy they suspected. Could it be him, or younger people?

Brittanee Drexel's Father Hopeful Most Recent Report Doesn't Delay or Derail Justice

    http://www.twcnews.com/nys/rochester...xel-case-.html

Brittanee Drexel, from Chili, was 17 when she went missing on a spring break trip to Myrtle Beach. In June, the FBI announced for the first time that Brittanee was held against her will and eventually killed after vanishing in 2009.

The day before the FBI held that press conference, Chad Drexel says he, the FBI, and the rest of Brittanee's family were debriefed.

“Long story short, we were asked that that information, all information given during that meeting stayed in that meeting until the FBI decides to pursue, actually until the head lawyer there, I forgot what his name was, Jim something, until he decides to press, until they have people in handcuffs, I told the FBI that I don’t want to hear anything," Chad Drexel said.

On Thursday, WCSC (Live 5 News) reported that Brad Conway, an attorney hired by Chad Drexel’s ex-wife Dawn Drexel, said police have identified a suspect or suspects in the case.

"It’s disappointing and boggles my mind that he would open up or say anything or answer any questions from the media about specifics, persons of interest, or whatever, suspects, because the FBI told us not to," Chad said.

An FBI spokesperson tells us they are still actively investigating the matter, and are still asking for the public's help, but are not releasing any other information.

Brittanee Drexel was last seen leaving the Bluewater Hotel in Myrtle Beach after visiting friends. During that June press conference, authorities said residents in a town about an hour south of Myrtle Beach saw Drexel alive for several days, and that details known by some could put law enforcement “over the edge” in solving the case. The reward was also increased to $25,000.

No arrests have been made in Drexel's disappearance and her body was never found.
The latest article I could find:

Brittanee's Best Friend: 'Someone Down There Does Know Something'

    http://www.twcnews.com/nys/rochester...-friedman.html

The focus now is on McLellanville, South Carolina, about 50 miles south of Myrtle Beach. The FBI said it's one of the places Drexel was later seen.

Authorities now maintain there are people in the Georgetown, S.C., area who saw Drexel during the "several days" she spent there and know details that could put law enforcement "over the edge" to solve the case.

Billboards with Brittanee's photo have sprung up, and the reward for info leading to a break is now $25,000.

"Someone down there does know something."
Friedman hopes that by sharing the stories of Brittany's life, someone will provide the information needed to break the case.

"I believe someone in the community, just seeing her again, remembering who she was. They will want to come forward, they will remember something."
I wasn't following this case from the beginning, there are so many posts that are not properly formatted anymore it was hard to follow - but does anyone know how the hell they figured out that she ended up so far from where they thought she was last seen? Who she knew from that area and what connection she might have to anyone there? I'm totally boggled. It seems as if they are being very tight lipped, which hopefully means they have some solid information on finding out what happened to her. Guess we shall see.

This case resonates with me in a weird way. I was a super wild child when I was a teenager, impulsive, rebellious. I went to places and hung out with people that weren't safe and didn't have a second thought about it. At that age you feel invincible and how sad that this is how Brittanee had to find out that wasn't the case.

    Wow

A teenage girl who disappeared from Myrtle Beach seven years ago was abducted, gang-raped, shot to death and thrown into an alligator-infested swamp in the dense forests near McClellanville, according to the FBI.

Uh yeah...I figured it was pretty bad if people were covering up for each other for so long, but never thought it was going to be that bad.

I wonder who came forth with this information, and if there's anything to corroborate it.

According to the new report, inmate Taquan Brown -- who had recently been sentenced to 25 years on a manslaughter charge -- made the "jailhouse confession."
The report says Brown told investigators he went to a "stash house" to meet with a friend and saw a teen sexually abusing Drexel. While Brown was at the house, the report says Drexel attempted to leave and was pistol-whipped and then shot. After that, it's not clear what happened to Drexel. However, the FBI agent says several witness have said Drexel was placed in an alligator pit.
    http://www.whec.com/news/brittanee-d...ports/4246935/
the transcript describes an inmate named Taquan Brown telling investigators he saw another man, identified as Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor, who was then 16, “sexually abusing Brittanee Drexel” at a “stash house” in Walterboro.

Ug. I am literally sobbing, and have been for at least 10 mins now. Brittanee was one of the very first missing persons cases I ever noticed, and I've been following it from the beginning. My heart feels so heavy. I've known about the "fed to alligators" theories from watching Disappeared and such, but seeing this in the news just now, from an FBI agent, saying that the was kidnapped, gang-raped for 5 days, tried to escape, pistol-whipped, shot, and fed to alligators...it's like the worst possible outcome to me. I'm so sad about this world right now. There is no way she deserved that, and I am so sad at the unfairness of it all. RIP beautiful Brittanee...I hope the FBI is wrong, that these horrific things didn't happen to you...I am so sorry if they did. A complete stranger is hurting tonight for you and for the unfairness of it all. I truly hope the monsters that hurt you are brought swift, brutal justice and stamped out of this world.

I left Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor this message on Facebook: "You are a monster for what you and your acquaintances did to Britttanee Drexel. I pray brutal justice is served and you are all stamped out of this world. You have no right being called "human" or living on this earth with the rest of us. I pray u are never let out of prison to even see this message. You do not belong. You deserve to be obliterated. If you ever see this message, for the sake of humanity, please kill yourself."

I was going to say that I hope this guy isn't lying - it seems an awful coincidence that she'd be held that length of time & just happen to be murdered at the moment he was visiting. Then there's the matter of how a 16yr old managed to get hold of her to begin with.

But before I thought any further I realised what this meant I was really hoping. So I'm doing the reverse now - I hope he IS lying. As fucked up as it will be for him to have put those cruel, soul-destroying images into her family & friends heads, I hope it's all lies so they don't have to spend the rest of their lives seeing her suffer that way whenever they manage to sleep

& fuck her "friends" for making her last days of freedom suck because of their petty, catty, bullying. If not for their shit behaviour this might never have happened.

I always thought that her 'friends' had something to do with her disappearance, but I guess they were just worried about their own arses, because they'd taken a minor over the State line and had been messing around with drugs.

It was always suspected that her body had been thrown into a river and fed to alligators, and on considering the 'reliability', or lack thereof, of the two witnesses, it still only remains a suspicion.

I wonder if the witnesses were offered some kind of deal on their sentences, or reward to their families?

It seems odd that the detective would release such a Statement if that is all the evidence they have.

If the guy doesn't fess up, which seems to be the case, he'll walk for sure, unless there's something more that the police are holding back on.

At this stage, I'm still not convinced.

Ugh, just saw this update. That poor frigging girl, if that really is what went down. I'm really curious if there are things the cops are withholding as far as what proof they have regarding that story, or if all they have is a "jailhouse confession"...

The father of Brittanee Drexel responded Monday to new details about his daughter's murder, including the name of a suspect and gruesome details in court papers about how Brittanee was killed.

Reports published Friday stated an FBI agent testified about an inmate's account of Brittanee's kidnapping. According to the report, a federal court transcript shows the agent describing the testimony of a prison inmate who has knowledge that Drexel was kidnapped in July 2009 while in Myrtle Beach, then was gang-raped, shot, then her dead body was put into a swamp filled with alligators near McClellanville, South Carolina.

Chad Drexel, Brittanee's father, says he hired private investigators and has proof linking Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor to Brittanee's murder. He criticized family members of Da'Shaun Taylor for claiming he is innocent.

Drexel said the FBI and private investigators had shared some of this information with him and Brittanee's mother, Dawn, earlier in the investigation.

In the statement, Chad added that he knows "other specific evidence that [he] can NOT disclose at this time...which corroborates these testimonies." The family has additional information and evidence, Chad states, that they are "unable to disclose at this time."

The full statement can be read below:

I would like to set the record STRAIGHT with a STRONG REPLY to Joan Taylor's comments to the Post Courier in South Carolina this past Friday.
Based on evidence the FBI and the Myrtle Beach Police department has gathered, along with FACTS and SPECIFIC INFORMATION gathered from a team of Private Investigators that I HIRED to work with local law enforcement actively during the case (which will SOON COME TO LIGHT) – we have no doubt Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor played a significant role in the abduction and murder of my daughter.
Of course the mother of Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor is going to defend her son – as a father I can understand a need to defend your children. What I DON’T understand is defending your children when you must KNOW the truth. Her assumptions and words stated have been verified INCORRECT and couldn’t be farther from the TRUTH. We know Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor was witnessed by others (Witnesses NOT IN JAIL) with my daughter – we are just praying that they do the RIGHT thing and stop forward with what they know. Additionally he has been seen and followed to the EXACT area where my daughter's DNA was found. Joan Taylor claimed that the FBI and government are falsely accusing her son because of witnesses IN JAIL?! Well, we have other specific evidence, that I can NOT disclose at this time for the safety of my daughters case, which corroborates these testimonies!! Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor is KNOWN to be involved in dog fighting, bringing drugs to parties, and raping women (mostly Caucasian young women) he either picks up UNWILLINGLY or friends of friends that end up being drugged and taken there. This IS ONLY THE BEGINNING!! There is a TON more "EVIDENCE and HORRIBLE INFO" we would like the PUBLIC in that area be aware of for their safety, but we are unable to disclose at this time.
WITHOUT A DOUBT ..........Timothy Da'Shaun Taylor is a suspect in my daughter's Disappearance and Murder! My family and I will be following the FBI's requests to keep specific details in our daughter’s case under wrap until THIS HORRIBLE PIECE OF TRASH goes to Prison for Life. After the guilty verdict, we will be happy to dispel these fairy tales that are being spun by Timothy’s family. It is disgraceful the way this FAMILY and their FRIENDS are supporting and claiming innocence of a "PROVEN" FELON without even looking at the evidence presented and the FACTS surrounding the case.
Also adding this PIECE OF TRASH photo so everyone can see WHO HE IS!
Please keep our family and our Brittanee in your prayers!
    Chad Drexel
    Father of Brittanee M Drexel

Ugh, this poor father. Sounds like there is a shitload more evidence that those allegations are true than has actually been put out there, which isn't surprising.

Apparently a new article, but I don't know which bits of info are new? Seems like none of them maybe

New details in case of teen who was abducted, gang-raped, shot and fed to alligators: FBI

There is new information on a headline-grabbing case out of South Carolina ? A 17-year-old high school soccer star goes missing, and what investigators believe happened to her is the stuff of horror movies, according to Crime Watch Daily.

The Grand Strand in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a popular and relatively safe place for families and spring-breakers.

On the night of April 25, 2009, everything changed when 17-year-old Brittanee Drexel walked out of a hotel and was never seen or heard from again. Now, seven years later, the FBI has new information.

For weeks before her disappearance, Brittanee had been bugging her mother about going to Myrtle Beach with some friends for spring break.

?And I told her, I said ?No, Brittanee,'? said Dawn Drexel. ?She goes, ?Why? Nothing?s gonna happen to me, mom.? I said, ?Brittanee, there?s no parental supervision. I don?t know these kids you?re going with,? and I said, ?Something?s going to happen to you.'?

So Brittanee asked mom if she could spend a few days at a friend?s home nearby in Rochester, New York.

?They had put this person on the phone and I thought I was talking to a parent and I told her she could stay since, you know, it was her spring break,? said Dawn.

But it wasn?t a parent. Brittanee hopped in a car with three girlfriends and sneaked off to Myrtle Beach. And Brittanee would maintain the charade by phone right up to the day of her disappearance.

?I said ?What are you doing later on?? She said ?We?re just gonna watch a movie, and we?re just gonna hang out,'? said Dawn. ?She says, ?I?ll see you tomorrow. I love you.? And I told her I love her too and that was the last time I talked to her.?

Then tomorrow came, and Dawn would learn the truth in the worst way imaginable, getting a call from Brittanee?s boyfriend, who had stayed behind in Rochester.

?He?s like, ?She?s in Myrtle Beach and they can?t find her,'? said Dawn. ?And I?m like, ?What? What do you mean they can?t find her?? And my heart just sank. I thought she was here the whole time and I felt in my heart she had made this decision that may have cost her her life.?

Brittanee?s boyfriend told Dawn that Brittanee had suddenly stopped returning his texts and that none of her friends in Myrtle Beach had seen her since the previous night.

?And that?s when I was like ?We gotta go down there, I have to leave. I have to go down there and try to find her,'? said Dawn.

?I said ?Well, I?m packing, I?m on the way as well,'? said John Kahyaohlu, Brittanee?s father.

As investigators start piecing together the final moments Brittanee Drexel was seen, a troubling timeline starts to emerge.

Myrtle beach, South Carolina, was alive with partying spring-breakers when Brittanee?s parents got into town. But their 17-year-old daughter was no longer among the young revelers after mysteriously vanishing just a day earlier. Brittanee?s mom and dad and friends from Rochester, New York were searching frantically for her.

They learn Brittanee had arrived in Myrtle Beach with her three friends from Rochester two days before she disappeared, hanging on the beach through the day, going to bars at night and doing a little partying.

The last time Brittanee was seen was on security video showing her walking into a hotel where a male friend was staying, then leaving about 15 minutes later and walking toward the main road.

?To pick up her flip-flops,? Dawn said. ?Supposedly she left flip-flops in his car.?

As the last known person to see her, police first interviewed him, then Brittanee?s three girlfriends.

Cellphone records showed Brittanee?s phone pinged seven miles south of Myrtle Beach just half an hour after her disappearance. Then two and a half hours later, at 11:58 p.m., her cellphone pings again. This time it?s 50 miles south of Myrtle Beach, in a town called McClellanville, S.C. The phone then goes dead and the case goes cold after massive searches of the area fail to find any trace of Brittanee.

Now more than seven years after Brittanee disappeared, a dramatic break in the case: Taquan Brown, a prison inmate serving 25 years for manslaughter in an unrelated case, told investigators he personally witnessed what happened to Brittanee, saying she was kidnapped, gang-raped, pistol-whipped and shot dead by a several men led by Da?Shaun Taylor of McClellanville.

And what Britanee?s abductors are said to have done with her body after killing her is gruesome beyond belief: Investigators believe her body was dumped in a swampy area teeming with alligators.

But Da?Shaun Taylor, 25, denied in an interview with Crime Watch Daily that he had anything to do with Brittanee?s disappearance. He says the same of Taquan Brown, the inmate who accuses him of killing her.

?I don?t even know the guy,? said Taylor.

It so happens that just a year after Brittanee vanished, Taylor?s father Shaun was actually arrested for allegedly trying to abduct another young woman in the same location Brittanee vanished. But the charges were dismissed because he had an alibi, and his son also claims to have an alibi the day Brittanee disappeared.

?Da?Shaun has the ability to get himself out of 10 to life if he could provide information, and he just doesn?t have any information to provide,? said Mark Peper, Taylor?s attorney.
The FBI has charged Da?Shaun Taylor in an unrelated armed robbery, and his attorney says he has an incentive to tell all he knows about Brittanee?s case.

FBI Special Agent Mike Connelly concedes there is not enough evidence to charge Taylor in Brittanee?s disappearance. He says he can?t disclose details of the case.

?There?s so much I can?t say about this investigation, and the reason being it?s really at a sensitive point right now,? said Connelly.

Connelly believes he will eventually bring Brittanee?s family the closure they want.

?There are people out there who know what happened to Brittanee,? said Connelly. ?We?re going to work as long as it takes until we can solve this case.?

The FBI is offering a $25,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for Brittanee Drexel?s disappearance. If you have information, call (800) CALL-FBI.

Dawn Drexel has started a nonprofit organization called Brittanee?s Little Angels to help families of missing children and children believed to be trafficked.
