Right?! I have waited on a resolution in this case for forever. I am happy that her family will finally get some kind of justice.

Chris Lambert would like to get back to making music but he can?t stop chasing a ghost that has haunted him for nearly 25 years.

A roadside billboard on California?s Central Coast detoured him three years ago from his career as a singer-songwriter and recording engineer to create a podcast about the 1996 disappearance of college freshman Kristin Smart. It?s taken over his life.

It would be great if they could let him out and then follow him everywhere he went, eventually leading to her body.

    Stretch, but would be awesome.

It would have been great if they could have done that decades ago. He's been their suspect from the beginning, and they have long suspected that she was buried at his dad's house. Why this took so long, I will never understand. They had the same technology back then to do the ground penetrating search. Ugh.

Suspect in Kristin Smart killing previously suspected in 2007 rape allegation

Paul R. Flores, now 44, became the subject of an investigation in 2012 when his DNA profile matched a profile collected in the alleged January 2007 incident, according to law enforcement records. But the alleged incident was never prosecuted.

Judge denies adding rape charges in Kristin Smart case

The San Luis Obispo district attorney's office had sought to add two rape charges — for offenses they say were committed in Los Angeles County after Smart disappeared — to the complaint filed against Paul Flores in Smart's death, KEYT reported Wednesday.

The judge ruled against the DA's motion and scheduled a preliminary hearing in the murder case for Aug. 2, according to the San Luis Obispo Tribune.

Well this is interesting! I had no idea the police looked at Scott Peterson in her disappearance.

SAN LUIS OBISPO (CBS13) ? The defense team for the man accused of killing Kristin Smart is preparing to call Scott Peterson to the stand.

Lawyers for Paul Flores say Peterson and Smart knew each other while they both attended Cal Poly more than two decades ago. It?s unclear when Peterson may testify, but the defense for Flores is making arrangements to transfer him to San Luis Obispo County from San Quentin.

At one point, investigators were looking at Peterson as a potential suspect in Smart?s disappearance, but they could never find a connection.

Peterson has been behind bars after being sentenced to death in 2005 for murdering his wife Laci Peterson and their unborn child. Peterson?s death sentence was overturned last summer after the California Supreme Court ruled sentencing was unfair and jury selection was impartial. His conviction still stands.

Investigators say Flores was the last one to see Smart, of Stockton, as she walked back to her dorm after an off-campus party 25 years ago. She was never seen again and her body has not been found.

These parents are the west coast version of the Laundries, or vice versa actually. I don't know how you can possibly lead your kid so far astray.

Haven't been on here in YEARS!! But this case right here brought me back.

I grew up near this area and had just gotten my license when Kristin went missing. San Luis Obispo was a place we often frequented and myself and some friends were terrified when Kristin Smart went missing! Then in 1998 and 1999 two more girls were killed in that area (Rex Krebs). This kind of thing just didn't really happen there.

Anyway, everyone in that area have always known of/suspected Paul Flores, and his family's involvement.. For 26 years!!

If anyone is unfamiliar with this case, I highly recommend the podcast, "Your Own Backyard".

It is so frustrating that he has been on the public's radar as her murderer for so long, but it took forever for him to be brought to justice. I haven't listened to that podcast, but will definitely check it out.

    This just in...

A jury has found Paul Flores guilty of murdering Cal Poly student Kristin Smart in 1996. Ruben Flores’ verdict is expected to be read next. After months of court proceedings, 12 jurors in a Salinas courtroom unanimously agreed Tuesday to convict Paul Flores of first-degree murder, capping a San Luis Obispo mystery that has been unsolved for more than 26 years
