SOUTHBRIDGE, Mass. -- The father of a home invasion victim took a swing at the suspect in front of a judge on Monday.
Clifford Maraglia never connected, however, as Dudley District Court officers stepped in to break up the brawl. Deric Allen, 22, is accused of terrorizing a woman inside her Southbridge home, allegedly taking her hostage at knifepoint in her bedroom while her baby was sleeping nearby. About 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Southbridge police responded to a 911 call from the mother, who reported glass breaking downstairs in her house where her infant child was sleeping.
Southbridge police forced entry through the front door soon afterwards and were able to disarm Allen.
The woman and child were unharmed. The police arrested Allen.
It is unknown why Allen broke into the house.
Maraglia was arraigned Monday afternoon and released on personal recognaissance.
