SALEM, Ore. – Marion County deputies arrested a woman for driving more than 100 miles per hour while her grandson was in the car.

It happened Sunday afternoon on Hylo Road in Salem. A deputy said he clocked the Mazda 6 at 103.

The posted limit on the hilly stretch is 45 and deputies say several people have died in crashes on the road while speeding.

Sandra Nardi, 53, told the officer she was showing her 10-year-old grandson how not to drive dangerously, and to never try to drive the way she was.

Deputies said she explained that several people had died on the road and it was a “popular place for kids to seek thrills” on the steep hills.

"This is by far the highest recorded speed on this road that I am aware of," Deputy Ryan Postlewait said.

Nardi was charged with reckless driving and reckless endangerment.
