I'd rather be a douche than traumatized for life.

And vaga's right, it's always a dead body! Except for at the open air mannequin dump.

True story: my friend and her sister were on a road trip. They saw these black garbage bags on the side of the road, stuffed with something. My friend's sister is like, OMG I think it was a dead body. They back up the car and sure enough it looks like a dead body in the truck. They drive up to a tourist stop and call 911. They guide the cops to the body. The cops get out and start poking the bag and then they start laughing and make the girls come over. It turns out they're crammed with insulation material.

When I was an EMT, my first call, the person was already dead. When I worked in the hospital, getting dead patients ready to go downstairs bothered me more. My dad was a firefighter, he still remembers lots of terrible things that bother him to this day. When you go to a trauma
scene your training kicks in, but when you go home that night sometimes it hits you.

Some stuff on Huckaby etc

Thank you for that link... amazing article. Here are some of the things that bother me:

Huckaby did awful things to Sandra, she violated her in ways unimaginable to anyone. Sandra was treated very badly by Huckaby. There is no excuse or acceptance for what she had to endure before she died. The only acceptance is that a predator is off the streets.
Those sentences put tears in my eyes. If there is a hell, Melissa Huckaby will burn. This poor girl. I can only hope that Sandra was drugged/unconscious when these horrible things took place. With the previous young girl who went missing and was later found in a playground with Huckabee having drugs in her system I think this is likely. I have a hunch the death occurred because of an overdose of these same drugs.

This woman is a monster.

It just gets sicker....WTF is going on in that place...

“ Tracy, CALIFORNIA (BNO NEWS) – Shocking new details about the way 8-year-old Sandra Cantu from Tracy, California died in March emerged on Sunday, a case that grabbed national headlines.
28-year-old Melissa Huckaby is suspected of murdering the young girl, but has also been charged with kidnapping and rape. Her body was found inside a suitcase in an irrigation pond but officials are no longer releasing information on the case because of a gag order. But new details emerged on Sunday, claiming Huckaby raped Sandra with a screwdriver before she died, a source told BNO News. The source said the information is not expected to be released until after the trial.
The source told BNO News that Sandra Cantu’s father, Danny Cantu, has said the Clover Road Baptist Church, where Huckaby’s grandfather is the pastor, is actually a cult with 13 members. Danny also said, according to the source, that he did not kill Sandra and that he would take a lie detector test to prove it.
Danny said he had connections “due to his past” and that the person who killed his daughter “would be taken care of.” He further said the pastor of the church had nothing to do with the girl’s murder and that Sandra’s DNA was found on a cot at the church.

There is a gag order on the case, so I am curious how BNO is getting this info and if it's true and not just hearsay?

A SCREWDRIVER?!?! Oh. Fuck. You.
Now that I have vomited atop my cornflakes, this woman is hereby cursed by me (for the thousandth time, and I really wish my curses worked, dammit. Community college is not the place for witchcraft.).

I have seen the future and I'm fairly relieved to say, it looks nothing like me.

Huckaby's child at center of court fight

As Melissa Huckaby faces charges she kidnapped, raped and killed 8-year-old Sandra Cantu in March, the Tracy woman's mother and ex-husband are waging a bitter court battle for custody of the murder suspect's young daughter.

On April 16, less than a week after Tracy police arrested his ex-wife in connection with Sandra's death, Johnny Huckaby asked a court to give him custody of their 5-year-old daughter, citing the rape and murder allegations in court papers filed in Orange County Superior Court.

Madison Huckaby, who was Sandra's playmate, has been living with Melissa Huckaby's parents, Judy and Brian Lawless, in the Southern California town of Cypress since last month's arrest, according to court filings.

Court Commissioner Walter Posey initially granted Johnny Huckaby, 25, custody of his daughter on April 20. But Posey reversed course two days later, after Judy Lawless pleaded with the court to let her keep the child.

In court papers, Judy Lawless said Madison has lived with her most of her life and has had little contact with her father, who has since remarried and lives 1,700 miles away, just outside Little Rock, Ark.

A custody hearing Monday was postponed until July 6.

Johnny Huckaby, Judy Lawless and their lawyers did not return calls for comment late Tuesday.

Madison befriended Sandra in the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park in Tracy, where the 8-year-old disappeared March 27.

Sandra's body was found 10 days later inside a suitcase that was dumped in a nearby pond. Melissa Huckaby was arrested April 10.

At the time, Madison was living with her mother and Melissa Huckaby's grandparents, Lane and Connie Lawless, a few doors down from Sandra's family in the trailer park.

Judy Lawless is the daughter-in-law of Lane and Connie Lawless.

Lane Lawless is also pastor of the tiny Clover Road Baptist Church, where Melissa Huckaby taught Sunday school.

Melissa and Johnny Huckaby's marriage was brief.

She was five months' pregnant and had recently filed for bankruptcy when they married in 2003. They separated a year later, and Melissa Huckaby filed for divorce in Orange County in 2005.

In divorce papers, Melissa Huckaby accused her estranged husband of domestic violence, alcohol abuse and child abduction, allegations he denies. Melissa Huckaby was granted custody of their daughter, and Johnny Huckaby was allowed supervised visits.

In a recent court filing, Judy Lawless said Madison and Melissa Huckaby lived with her in Orange County from the fall of 2004 until June 2008, before moving to the Tracy mobile home park.

To avoid the news media covering Melissa Huckaby's arrest, Judy Lawless took Madison and, until April 20, was staying with a relative in Oregon, according to court documents.

Johnny Huckaby wrote in court papers that he traveled to Oregon with the court order to retrieve his daughter, but Judy Lawless had already taken her back to Southern California. He accuses her of lying to him about Madison's whereabouts.

Johnny Huckaby also claims that, in recent years, his ex-wife denied his attempts to contact their daughter, threatening to hide out in Oregon and tell Madison he was not her father.

In an April 17 interview with ABC News, the day after he filed his custody request, Johnny Huckaby said he hoped for the sake of their daughter that his ex-wife is innocent of the criminal charges that make her eligible for the death penalty.

"I do not want my daughter growing up with that type of legacy to look forward to," he said. He said their daughter was not aware of her mother's situation.

Melissa Huckaby has not entered a plea. She is scheduled to appear again in San Joaquin County Superior Court on Friday.

Whatever is in the best interest of the child. I hope that she ends up with the right person, and with all of the rumors of possible child porn throughout the entire trailor park, I don't think she should be going back there at all. If the father is an attentive and loving man, I don't see why he shouldn't get custody.

This case just gets more and more sickening.

Sadly, the cult allegations really wouldn't surprise me either. And by cult I assume that is code for a paedophile ring operating under the label of an organised religion (ie. the church). Same shit, different smell. I wish they wouldn't try and justify it. I said from the beginning that little church absolutely wreaked of it, same old, dirty tricks. I was really hoping I was just biased and jaded.

I wonder how many children were subjected to abuse at the hands of this woman (and perhaps others associated with her) because I don't believe little Sandra was just a one-off victim. It seems Huckaby merely escalated her violence to the point of murder. I wonder how many it took for her to reach that point?

I am still thinking that Sandra was given too much of the muscle relaxing drug the other girl was found with. Whatever happened I hope Sandra went quickly and painlessly... and thats hard to believe right now.

If this church is a "cult" for child molesters we will hear more about it soon. It's very strange how many of the trailers had child porn in them. I would like to think that 99% of the people in the world would find that disgusting and sick... but how many trailers in a small area?

What is wrong with people??

This case makes me sick.

I hope the truth of the matter is all brought out into the public arena. I won't hold my breath though, a lot of the child abuse/paedophilia cases (that I have had the misfortune of reading anyway) concerning the church, whether that be directly or through association, usually are suppressed completely or at the very least are sanitized versions. After all, they wouldn't want too much of a PR disaster on there hands that might affect their donations cash flow (which they need to pay for Huckaby's defense team).

I am scared that she abused her own little girl, too.

If her entire family (FBI was looking into her father at one point) has ties to child porn, they need to get that little one away from them... and getting therapy if it's needed. She is so little that she might not realize her mommy was being bad.

This is sick.

I am wondering if that whole family might be bad for this little girl to live with.....but if the dad is on the up and up and can take care of his daughter the correct way then he should get custody of her..(atleast she will be far away from the mother and the trailer park)..This was such a horrible case as are so many others like this.

RIP little Sandra

So you think that she should go to her dad if it wasn't his fault that he wasn't around her very much? I just fail to see how that is the child's fault or why she should be thrown in with an essential stranger. I don't think that the little girl should have to go live with her dad because he was wronged. Even if he was denied the opportunity to be in her life, that doesn't change the fact that she doesn't know him very well. It's not whats best for him, it's whats best for her.

If anything, she should stay with her grandparents while she slowly gets reunited with her dad, and should ultimately live with him once shes comfortable. Over a period of time.

The woman accused of raping and murdering 8-year-old Sandra Cantu of Tracy is facing new charges alleging that she drugged a 7-year-old girl and a man in the months before Sandra died, according to court records.

A shackled Melissa Huckaby, 28, made her third appearance today in San Joaquin County Superior Court in Stockton but did not enter a plea on a murder charge in Sandra's slaying, nor to the new charges of child endangerment and two counts of furnishing a harmful substance.

Her attorney, Deputy Public Defender Sam Behar, told Judge Linda Lofthus that he needed more time to review 1,000 pages of evidence that he received today and Thursday "before making any decision as to how to proceed."

Huckaby will return to court June 12. She nodded when the judge asked if she understood the reason for the delay.

"You have to say yes or no," Lofthus said.

"Yes," Huckaby said with a smile.

In a complaint filed Thursday, prosecutors charged Huckaby with "furnishing a harmful substance" to the 7-year-old girl, identified in the court papers as Jane Doe, on Jan. 17. That's the day Lora Polk, who lives at the Orchard Estates Mobile Home Park, said her daughter had apparently been drugged with muscle relaxants during a visit with Huckaby. Huckaby also lived in the mobile home park, as did Sandra.

Authorities said police had been called to the park by Polk on the night of her daughter's visit with Huckaby, but decided at the time not to file charges because it was not immediately clear Huckaby had done anything wrong.

Huckaby was also charged with drugging a man identified as Daniel Plowman on March 2.

The substance was not identified, but the complaint said Huckaby "did willfully and unlawfully mingle a harmful substance with food or drink."

Attorneys in the case declined to comment, citing a court-imposed gag order.

Plowman is a former friend of Huckaby's, and the two attended the Clover Road Baptist Church run by Huckaby's grandfather, Lane Lawless, friends said. Huckaby is private about her dating life, friends said, but some believe the two dated and then had a falling-out.

Plowman was allegedly drugged 25 days before Sandra was last seen. On March 27, a surveillance video captured images of her skipping near her home. Her body was found in a suitcase April 6 in a dairy farm's irrigation pond 2 miles from the mobile home park.

Huckaby's family maintains that police have the wrong person for Sandra's killing and the druggings. Some relatives say they don't believe investigators have looked into other suspects vigorously enough, considering Sandra's family let her wander the mobile home park alone for hours at a time.

State records show that 15 registered child-sex offenders, two attempted child molesters and four adult-rape offenders live within a mile of the mobile home park.

"I am absolutely flabbergasted that Melissa would be charged with these things," said her great-aunt, Cynthia Browning. "I am confident she did not do them. They're just trying to find something somewhere in this poor girl's past to make her into a raving monster.

"I just pray that God leads and guides everyone in this whole matter to come to the right conclusion."

An autopsy on Sandra's body has been performed, but Lofthus sealed the report last month, citing the "heinous" nature of the crime and the need to ensure a fair trial for Huckaby.

Huckaby, who is the mother of one of Sandra's playmates, was arrested April 10 and charged with murder, along with three special circumstances that make her eligible for execution if convicted. Those allege that the killing was committed during a kidnapping, involved a lewd or lascivious act on a child, and involved rape with a foreign object.

Prosecutors have not decided whether to pursue the death penalty.

Huckaby is being held without bail at San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp.

Her 5-year-old daughter is now living in Arkansas with Huckaby's ex- husband, Johnny Huckaby, after having stayed for weeks in California and Oregon with Melissa Huckaby's grandmother, Connie Lawless.

Among the spectators in the gallery today were Sandra's aunt and uncle, Angie and Joe Chavez, and Susan Levy of Modesto, the mother of slain Washington, D.C., intern Chandra Levy. On the opposite side of the courtroom sat Huckaby's father, Brian Lawless, Connie Lawless and several other relatives.

Family members left without speaking with reporters.

ugh. just saw that on CNN. reallllllly makes you wonder how many more there were, that were just never reported. it seems like she was either 'practicing' on kids before the big act with Sandra; or this was a normal thing for her to drug children and ...do god know's what.., and with Sandra things just out of hand.

after hearing everything, i'm willing to bet Sandra was drugged as well and, we can only hope, was not fully conscious for everything that was done to her. i hope justice is served soon!

No, no... it's not the child's fault and I think if it's possible to have her stay with other family and get accustomed to him over time then that should be done. In the case I had that I mentioned in my previous post, the girl was around 10 and it wasn't that she'd had NO contact with her dad previously, just very little. Each case is different and should be evaluated differently. If the choice is for her to go into foster care or to her dad, and her dad checks out completely, then yes, she should go to dad instead of a foster home. I definitely agree that it is about what is best for her, not him or anyone else. I guess I was just trying to say (I'm not always good at getting my point across!) that people should not automatically think he is a bad person or a bad father because he hadn't been involved in her life. His intent should be considered too.
