Porn actor goes on rampage at video production office, police say; 1 dead, 2 wounded

The man believed responsible for a rampage at a Van Nuys video production facility that left one dead and two wounded is a struggling porn actor who faced the loss of his job, authorities said.

Stephen Hill, 30, allegedly used a machete-style weapon in the attack, which occurred about 10:20 p.m. at a video distribution business on Hayvenhurst Avenue and Saticoy Street.

Los Angeles Police Department Det. Joel Price said Hill was both working and living at the offices of Ultima DVD Inc.

Price said Hill did production work and acted in several porn movies. But on the night of the attack, he apparently faced the loss of his job and eviction from the office.

Hill allegedly fled after stabbing the three co-workers. The victims were rushed to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead. There were seven people in the office when the attack occurred.

The LAPD is investigating the attack as a case of workplace violence. The suspect fled in a blue Toyota RAV4 with license plate 5YTC423.

Sources told the LA Times that Hill has a history of violence, including a 1999 conviction for ‘Assault with a firearm.’ after he threatened to kill one of his college tutors for not giving him an A in a test.

Hill allegedly told the University of Maryland instructor that he was “a mobster” and would kill and dismember the instructor if he didn’t give Hill the top grade.

Stephen Hill was last seen fleeing the crime scene in a Toyota RAV4, license plate “5YTC423.” Officers say he may be hiding locally, or could have left the area. He may also be armed, so anyone who sees him is urged to contact police.

Cops Surround Sword Slaying Suspect On Cliff

LOS ANGELES (CBS) - A SWAT team has set up a perimeter in a West Hills neighborhood, where authorities said 34-year-old Stephen Clancy Hill was seen standing on a cliff near a home in the 8000 block of Azul Drive.

Hill reportedly was threatening to hurt himself with a sword and refused to step away from the edge of the hillside.

Stephen Clancy Hill was suspected of killing a colleague and wounding two other people during an attack with a sword.

He was charged Friday with murder and attempted murder.

Prosecutors said Hill was facing one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder in connection with the attack Tuesday with the movie prop at the Ultima DVD production center.

The charges were filed after Eric Jover, the runs Ultima DVD, offered a $2,000 reward on the company's website for information leading to the arrest of Hill.

Jover said he was present during the attack but declined to disclose details because he did not want to compromise the investigation.

The website also contains a tribute to Herbert Hin Wong, 30, who police said was killed when he tried to save another victim after the violence erupted at a small social gathering at the studio.

Wong worked for Ultima for three years as an actor, cinematographer, film editor and webmaster, and was his best friend, Jover said.

He said Wong saved his life and the lives of others.

"His sacrifice will not go unheard," Jover said. "He will be remembered in the industry as an actor and technical 'go-to' guy who was a valuable resource and friend to all."

Hill, whose professional name is Steve Driver, fled in an SUV. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Hill went on the rampage after being told he was being fired and would have to move out of the production facility where he had been living, authorities said.

The small company is located in the San Fernando Valley, known in the adult film industry as Porn Valley for its large number of porn businesses.

Ultima produces niche films featuring fetishes and sexual domination of men.

Hill was convicted of second-degree assault and a handgun charge in March 1999 in Maryland, according to court records. A state's attorney spokesman did not return a call seeking further details.

I don't know actually.  One article I saw says the SWAT team was called at at like 9:30am PST.  But the one I first found was updated at like 2:30.  Let me do some digging and I'll find out for sure.
