As anyone else been thinking for a while that she might of been involved in the sex business? I have been wondering for a while and assumed she would of been a escort or higher class call girl.

Hmm i dunno if she will be linked to this guy tho, i think he would of boasted about it.

Yeah i thought maybe an escort.
I think the police are holding a lot to their chest at the moment so not to jepodise their case against him. Maybe he has been boasting about things but it hasn't been published?

    Yeah he really does.
I saw a bit in the paper from the top criminologist in the country, saying Griffiths is a fame-hungry fantasist and that he 'outed' himself to boost his notoriety. The criminologist said Griffiths was “an off-the-shelf serial killer” and he acted how he thought a serial killer would respond as part of a sick fantasy

Father of missing chef Claudia Lawrence appeals for witnesses in Glasgow

    Jun 18 2010

THE father of missing chef Claudia Lawrence said today he hoped a documentary about her disappearance would trigger "somebody's memory or somebody's heart".

Peter Lawrence gave details of the programme to be broadcast this summer as he took the hunt for his daughter to Glasgow.

Fifteen months after she disappeared from York Mr Lawrence, a solicitor, travelled to the city to appeal for information on Miss Lawrence's suspected murder.

Mr Lawrence, 63, spoke at Central Station where large screens next to the departure board showed a picture of the chef with the words: Where Are You?

The father, from Slingsby, North Yorkshire, has already made appeals at railway stations in London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Miss Lawrence, who was 35 when she disappeared, failed to arrive at her work in the University of York on March 19 last year.

She was last seen near her home in Heworth the previous day and police believe she may have been harmed by someone she knew.

Her father said a half-hour documentary by Glasshead production company will be screened on Channel 4 in July or August.

Mr Lawrence said: "It's very moving. There's interviews not only with me but with Claudia's sister Ali and close friends and there are scenes of the area where Claudia worked.

"Hopefully with its very wide audience it will trigger somebody's memory or somebody's heart."

North Yorkshire Police have carried out a series of searches in connection with Miss Lawrence's disappearance, which detectives are treating as a murder inquiry.

Last month, a team of about 20 officers, including divers, examined a house and the land around it in Ellerton village, East Yorkshire, around 10 miles from Heworth. No arrests were made.

Mr Lawrence handed out leaflets at Manchester Piccadilly railway station in February to mark the 11-month anniversary of his daughter's disappearance.

An appeal has also been made on BBC's Crimewatch programme.

Her father said: "I never imagined that we would be here 15 months on. Sometimes it feels like an eternity, sometimes the day she disappeared feels like it was yesterday.

"We've come to Glasgow not because there's any specific link but because we are going everywhere we can.

"I'll never give up hope and I'll never give up this campaign."

Anyone with information should call 08456 060 247.

Police investigating Claudia Lawrence case arrest man, 59, from York on suspicion of murder and seize car following release of CCTV showing mystery vehicle outside her home on day she vanished
A 59-year-old man has today been arrested on suspicion of the murder of missing chef Claudia Lawrence, who disappeared five years ago. North Yorkshire Police has said forensic examinations and searches are being conducted in York, where she went missing in 2009, and a car has also been seized. The force made a Crimewatch appeal two months ago showing CCTV footage of a mystery vehicle, believed to be a Ford Focus, outside her home on the day she vanished.

Detective Superintendent Dai Malyn, who is leading the case, said in March he also wanted to trace a 'hugely significant' man, in his late fifties, seen outside her house on the same morning. The suspect was seen outside her house in Heworth Road, York, by a witness at 6.45am on March 19 2009 and was described as having with grey mid-length hair, and wearing a three-quarter length sandy coloured mac. The force has today refused to reveal whether this is the man arrested or if it was a Ford Focus they have seized.

Miss Lawrence was last seen at around 3.05p on March 18 five years ago, walking back from work towards her home. It is thought she was abducted and murdered on March 19. Detectives said today that Claudia's body has still not been found. Her father Peter Lawrence confirmed he had been told the news this morning. He said: 'I'm very pleased they appear to be making progress by making this arrest.'

The force launched a review of the investigation last year after a new major crime unit was established by the force. Miss Lawrence was 35 when she was reported missing by her father, Peter, on March 20 2009. She was last seen at around 3.05pm on March 18, walking back towards her home, and that night she spoke to both her parents on the phone. It is thought something happened to her after she left for work early on March 19. Jen King, one of Claudia's closest friends, said the arrest showed progress was being made with the investigation.

She said: 'It has been five years. It proves it's very much still alive in the minds of the police and it just goes to show despite the accusations from people that the police are not bothered they are very much bothered about it. 'If it goes somewhere that's great but if not it shows the investigation is ongoing. 'It's a step towards this one day being resolved.' Mr Malyn's team has spent two months re-examining Miss Lawrence's small, terraced home. They also found the DNA profile of an unknown man on a cigarette butt in the university chef's Vauxhall Corsa.

Police have said before that Miss Lawrence's mobile and rucksack have never been found. Her father has mounted a five-year campaign to find his daughter. At the anniversary in March, he discussed the 'torture' his family had suffered through five years of not knowing what has happened to her. It is the first arrest to have been made of someone suspected of causing Claudia harm.

Case so far: What the police know about Claudia Lawrence's disappearance and who they still want to trace Detectives investigating Claudia Lawrence's disappearance said today there could be more arrests as they try to trace others who may have been involved in her murder. A cold case review started last year found DNA on a cigarette butt in her car which could lead them to a mystery 'left-handed smoker'. It fuelled speculation the 35-year-old chef could have been seeing a secret boyfriend in the weeks before she vanished five years ago.

Using techniques not available in 2009, police found the potentially vital DNA profile on a discarded Embassy Regal cigarette butt. It was found in the ashtray of her Vauxhall Corsa, which was being repaired when she went missing. They want to find out if the evidence from the car, which had been off the road ?for a number of weeks? when she vanished, is linked to a man who has been dubbed the 'left-handed smoker'. The man was seen standing with a woman at 5.35am on the day Miss Lawrence disappeared, at a point on her route to work and at an appropriate time.

The couple were seen by a passing cyclist and were facing each other several feet apart on Melrosegate Bridge. The man, dressed in a dark hooded top, was smoking from a cigarette held in his left hand. Police also want to trace a man who told shop workers he knew Miss Lawrence or used to work with her, but has never been traced. The man, identified on CCTV, mentioned the case to staff in Tang Hall, York, on April 1, 2009 - almost two weeks after she disappeared.

They also found extra fingerprints and DNA material throughout her house but have found no match. Analysis of Miss Lawrence's phone records indicate she was spending an unusual amount of time ?socialising? in the Acomb suburb of York during this period and police believe somebody she was seeing there is ?yet to come forward.? Evidence inside Miss Lawrence?s house indicates she left as normal early in the morning of Thursday 19 March to walk the three miles to work at the University of York?s Goodricke College for a 6am shift. Another more curious item police want to trace is Miss Lawrence?s set of GHD hair straighteners.

Police are investigating how and why Miss Lawrence's GHD hair straighteners could have disappeared

The high-profile police inquiry has always focused on Miss Lawrence?s private life and her parents have been upset by reports about her lovers. Police have previously revealed at the time she went missing she was in a secret ?long term casual relationship? with a man who was in a serious relationship himself. She also went out with a different mystery man 48 hours before she vanished. Miss Lawrence arrived for her early shift looking tired and told a work colleague she had been out until 4 or 5am with a boyfriend. Miss Lawrence was a prolific user of her mobile phone and further ?cell site activity? analysis showed she was often in Acomb during her spare time in the weeks before she disappeared. Although known to drink in a pub there, police believe there could be vital information about this aspect of her social life that they have not been told about.

Miss Lawrence?s silver Samsung D900 mobile has never turned up. It went dead at 12.10pm on the day she went missing. Police said in March they don?t think it ran out of battery power and believe ?it was deliberately turned off by someone.? When police were called in they found Miss Lawrence?s bed made and dirty breakfast dishes in the kitchen sink. Police ?favour the theory? she set off for work as planned with her mobile and rucksack containing her chef?s whites but never made it.

Detectives investigating the disappearance of Claudia Lawrence yesterday arrested a 59-year-old man who worked at the same university as her and drank in her local pub. Michael Snelling lived just half a mile from the 35-year-old university chef who went missing in March 2009 and is believed by police to have been murdered. He was a lab technician at York University at the time and a regular in the Nag’s Head pub, a few doors down from Miss Lawrence’s terraced home in the city.

Police arrested Snelling on Tyneside early yesterday and a team of forensic officers moved into his rundown semi-detached house in Heworth, York. They removed his blue Ford Focus car and officers in white suits were seen in the garage and the garden and removing possessions for scientific analysis. Officers also removed items from a house in North Tyneside belonging to Snelling’s mother. The dramatic development is a result of a cold-case review by North Yorkshire Police and follows a new appeal on the BBC’s Crimewatch programme in March. Police announced that a 59-year-old man had been arrested ‘on suspicion of murder’, but refused to confirm his identity. A spokesman said police ‘cannot rule out the possibility of further arrests’.

Miss Lawrence’s friends and family reacted to news of the arrest with cautious optimism. The missing chef’s mother, Joan Lawrence, 70, said she was still in her nightgown when police knocked on her door at 8am to deliver the news. ‘It has come completely out of the blue’, she said, adding: ‘I just haven’t had time to take it all in, I’m still trying to get my head around this.’ Mrs Lawrence, who is the outgoing mayor in her home town of Malton, North Yorkshire, separated from Claudia’s father, Peter, a commercial property lawyer, 18 years ago. She has previously railed at the police’s working theory that her daughter’s ‘complex’ private life held the key to her disappearance.

She added: ‘I don’t know what this might mean but it’s not the first time there’s been a big development which has led to nothing. I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.’ Mr Lawrence said he was ‘pleased they [police] appear to be making progress by making this arrest’. He added: ‘We’ll have to wait and see what happens. I’ll be more willing to speak when there’s more news.’ Miss Lawrence vanished on the morning of March 19, 2009, and never arrived for her early shift at work. Police believe she has been murdered but have never found her body or evidence to suggest what has happened to her.

Snelling worked as a technician in the university’s biology department before being made redundant in cutbacks. He now works as a project co-ordinator for the mental health charity Mind. His house stands out from others in the neat cul-de-sac because of its poor state of repair. The front has not been painted for years and the curtains are dirty and torn. Snelling was known in the pub as ‘Geordie Mick’. Originally from Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, he is ‘football mad’ and a keen Newcastle United fan. The street is a mixture of working families and students, many of whom gathered outside to watch TV camera crews filming the police operation. The arrest follows the release of fresh information about the inquiry to coincide with the fifth anniversary of Miss Lawrence’s disappearance.

Detectives revealed they had obtained a DNA profile of a mystery man who left a cigarette butt in her car, which was being repaired when she went missing. Another forensic examination of her house also yielded scientific evidence. The property is less than half a mile from Claudia's home, where she was last seen in 2009. Police removed bags of evidence, documents and a suitcase before the house was sealed with metal shutters. A neighbour on Burnholme Grove, who did not wish to be named, said: 'The police arrived at around 7am this morning but I didn't see anyone being arrested.

'Mike has lived there for years, about 20 years by himself, no kids or a wife or anything. 'He works for a mental health charity in York'. A source added: 'He's football mad and everybody calls him Geordie Mick. He goes to Newcastle every other weekend to watch the matches.' Police officers brought in vacant property specialists to board up the house in Burnholme Grove and a cordon has also been placed around it. It also emerged that a different property almost 100 miles away - in North Shields, Tyneside - is also being searched by a forensics team from Yorkshire. MailOnline understands it belongs to the suspect's 84-year-old mother, who was moved to a care home two months ago, neighbours said.

Glad someone posted this. The house they are searching in North Tyneside is in North Shields, my home town, and is literally within spitting distance of my house. They've had sniffer dogs going in and out all week. He grew up in Shields and was coming up every weekend to see his mother who lived there. They had a few neighbours on my local news who swear blind he's the nicest man you'll ever meet and wouldn't hurt a fly.

Always been a bit of a strange one this one. The papers were insinuating early on that she was a bit of a goer and would meet lots of random blokes off the internet for a bit of the beast with two backs. They seem to have backed off that now thankfully as it wasn't really helping matters.

THE mystery of what really happened to university chef Claudia Lawrence has deepened with the release of a suspect without charge.
Miss Lawrence was 35 when she sent missing in March 2009 from North Yorkshire sparking a massive hunt for her.
Despite that she has never been found, a 60-year-old man was arrested in May on suspicion of killing her.
But the case took a surprising turn today when the suspect was released without charge.
In a statement, North Yorkshire police said that he had been released, while a 46-year-old arrested in July on suspicion of perverting the course of justice remains on police bail.
Police said ?significant inquiries? were continuing into the circumstances of Miss Lawrence?s disappearance and haven?t ruled out further arrests.
