Well, what do you mean by "lots of other things"  Smoking is pretty irresponsible to but then, i don't smoke either. I mean it's pretty much like giving yourself a death sentence but hey, people do what they want.

WOW, def not called for at all. Never said i was perfect. And about me being fat? You're joking right? Is that all you could come up with?  I'm fat because i quit smoking mainly....go figure. I lost both parents to smoking so i quit.
Isn't calling someone fat and /or  poking fun of them because they are overweight kind of juvi? I mean, it's so yesterday.  Even on the internet. Never said i was an angel because i'm not but hey, i'm fat, i'm happy and glad i quit. Was the best thing i ever did.  Rather be fat and happy than smoking and having smokers cough and smelling like shit all day.

It seems like you were being critical of smokers etc but when the tables are turned on you, you get defensive?

Excuse me, she was being superior. She doesn't succumb to such temptation. Unless it's food.

The whole point, Beantown, is that everyone has vices, and in moderation, they aren't a condemnable choice.

Wasn't trying to come off the way you are all perceiving it. I have nothing against people that smoke or drink. I was just saying they are not things i do in MY life. Didn't mean to seem like i was acting superior at all because i am far from it. I am sorry you have all turned this around against me. Fact is , the guy died doing something stupid because he made a wrong choice in his life and he lost his and it was most likely all because of the alcohol. Who's to say? May have still happened had he been sober.

No-one is insulting your weight.  They are making a point.  Some people smoke, others drink, some gamble, others eat.  Go re-read your posts.  They were condescending.

Nothing was condescending at all. You all just attacked me because you didn't like what i said.  Again, i have nothing against PEOPLE that smoke or drink but i DO have something against smoking and drinking in general. Does that make sense at all? Anyway, sorry you all took me the way you have. Carry on.

She said:  She doesn't have anything against people who smoke or drink although she personally dislikes smoking and drinking in general.

Makes perfect sense to me.  I personally abhor organized religion, but I don't hold that against anyone who chooses to worship.  Make sense?  :-)

You are talking to a woman who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom and chuckled at catastrophe.

no, it's condescending. she wants to put her little 2 cents in and then backtrack. own up to it...

Sorry but i don't think i've EVER seen a responsible drunk person.

Rather be fat and happy than smoking and having smokers cough and smelling like shit all day.

I'll own up to the fact that I think people who worship an organized religion are dummies. Doesn't mean they aren't good people, but they are still dummies.

Ahhh... so is this finally a politically incorrect thing to say?  Because honestly, I was a life long smoker, and I heard that shit from people every single day from about 1996 until the time I quit smoking in January 2006.  And nobody (but me) seemed to think there was anything wrong with walking up to a total stranger (me again) and preaching about how disgusting the habit is, how bad it smells, how bad for my health/my skin/my heart/my lungs, how I'm killing other people, killing my kids, driving up health care costs, how I smell like a dirty ashtray, my clothes/hair/breath/fingers/house/car stinks... ad infinitum.

I'm not being sarcastic here.  I got ugly more than once with total strangers who would glare and cough and gag and roll their eyes and wave their hands in front of their faces (while muttering "Ugh!  Disgusting!" under their breath) when they passed within 50 ft. of me standing outside my office in the freezing cold smoking a cigarette.

I felt like smokers were the last segment of society where it was politically correct, encouraged even to make derogatory remarks about them without consequence or shame.

So yeah, if this is now considered condescending well than yay for smokers for finally standing up for themselves.  Back when I was smoking it was just standard everyday conversation - and that's the truth.

And I just realized this is Andrew's thread, not Speak Here.  Sorry for the hijack.

    RIP Andrew...

Is that what it is suppose to be?

Yes, it's a tribal uterus and it means a lot to me.  I did not get it just because it was a symbol and used by a band.
