16-year-old boy held in stabbing death
One man is dead and a second in critical condition after both were stabbed by a 16-year-old boy who entered a bar in Petaluma on Sunday and demanded that one of the men buy him liquor, police said.
Police say the suspect, a Santa Rosa resident, walked into the bar on Water Street and asked customer Salvador Cucci Jr., 23, of Petaluma to buy him liquor. When Cucci refused, the teen stabbed him twice and ran out of the bar. Police say the teen was chased by other patrons and some of Cucci's friends, who caught the teen and began fighting with him.
At that point, the teen stabbed Nathaniel Reifers, 31, of Santa Rosa, police said. Reifers later died at Memorial Hospital in Santa Rosa.
Police say the teen continued running after the second stabbing and collapsed from a head injury and lacerations to his body at East Washington and Water streets. He was taken to the hospital and arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Police say they were investigating how the teen was injured. He remains at the hospital in fair condition.
Police ask that any witnesses to the incident call Detective Mike Pierre at (707) 778-4372.
