MySpace partly blamed for a spate of Australian teen suicides

Remember me talking about how a heap of teenagers from a school near me have committed suicide this year? See this thread: http://mydeathspace.com/smf/index.php?topic=2650.0

Well, it turns out the suicides have spread to another nearby school and the police have seized three computers in relation to the suicides. On the news last night, MySpace was even mentioned in reference to teens "discussing suicide" and schools in the area have sent their kids to crisis assemblies to talk about suicide, etc - there's been nothing at my school yet, but according to a friend who goes to a different school, MySpace was mentioned a couple of times.

I happen to know at least one of the suicides had a MySpace (Abe Radloff, see MDS article at http://mydeathspace.com/article/2006/10/31/Abe_Jackman_Radloff_aka_April_Requiem_(17)_took_hi s_own_life) and the MySpaces of other students at the school, Norwood Morialta High, mention the others... oooh. I'm loving the drama, in a weird sort of way. O.o

I'm just waiting for a MDS mention in the local media...

[/quote]  It's about time someone started talking about suicide to the teens.  Obviously, there is a crisis.

How many bodies equal a crisis anyway?

Technically, just one. Proper procedure when one kid kills him/herself if to counsel the others at the school like mad and watch them all like a hawk, lest suicide clusters occur. My old high school failed in this when my friend hanged herself - and guess what? There were more attempts within a few months. O.o

Unsuprisingly, old high school is in the same area as this one - and is one of the few which hasn't had crisis assemblies for its students.
