I got a new puppy. Meet Otis. He is an 8 month old Blood Hound and was so poor when I got him. The people who had him didn't take care of him and he was underweight and wormy. They kept him chained and never let him lose. After one week he has gained 7 pounds and is finally losing some of the matted fur that was on him from the worms. He is so playful and energetic. I Love Him.

    Berry, Otis is SO adorable!!!!

I read Where The Red Fern Grows ( ) and fell in love with hounds.
He's awesome, he's lucky to have such a great owner. :-)

I don't think they have eyes. They live in tunnels underground. Not much to see there.

    Okay, I lied.

Moles do have eyes, but they're tiny slits covered with thin skin.

    Re: MDS pets

This is the doggy someone dumped in my town. He ran around town for about a month before someone finally caught him. I ended up with him. I thought I found him a home but the lady kept him for two hours and called and wanted to bring him back because he growled at her 11 y/o daughter. Turns out this is the second dog these people recently had that was returned for growling at the daughter.

He may have to go to the shelter because I don't think I can keep him. I already have two dogs, a bird and a rabbit. He's housebroken and a really nice little guy and I hate the thought of him going to the shelter.

Aw, what a cute doggie! That's nice of you to take him in while you can. Do you have a craigslist in your area? If so, you could make a post in the pet section about him. You could even include an application or just some basic questions so you feel sure that he would be going to a good home. It's actually a pretty effective way to rehome animals, and that way, he wouldn't have to go to a shelter! :-)

This is my best friend in the whole world, Magic. She got her name because she showed up in our garage one day, after the door had been closed for about 3 days straight.

This is the late, great, Otto. He was the only male pet I've ever owned, aside from fish.

Ah, so cute! Was Otto a hamster or a gerbil? I had a hamster named Daisy years ago whom I adored. She spent most of her life on my shoulder getting kisses. Sadly, pictures of her no longer exist to my knowledge .

Thanks! Haha, I love showing off my pets. I'll never shut up about them if given the opportunity. Aside from my cat, I actually also have 2 guinea pigs (Sweeney and Scout), a gerbil (Small Fry) and some fish, but I can't find pics of them. I'll have to do that soon.

Otto died on May 28th last year, the day after my b-day. I felt horrible because I had pretty much ignored him on my bday because I wanted to go out and have fun. No clue what happened, he was just there one day and gone the next. I suspect old age. Poor little guy had a rough life. I got him for free because his cage-mate beat him up (ripped all the fur off his nose, bit a hole in one ear, tore the end off the other ear, and tore chunks of fur out). Then after all that he got mange and I spent $100 on his meds. Poor little man. I didn't even have him for a year, so I think he was already old when I got him.

See what I mean? I never shut up about my pets

    Re: MDS pets

This is Shelby, the love of my life! She's an 11-year-old Pomeranian/Miniature Poodle. My dad brought her home randomly one day after my grandma apparently rescued her from abusive owners when she was just a pup. She was like 2-months old when we got her, and she has been an active member of our family since then.

Some bad news, though. Shelby has an enlarged heart and was recently put on two different prescriptions. The vet said that she's going to eventually die from a heart attack, but that she could have weeks to years, so it's really unpredictable when it will happen. Since little Shelby has been there for a full half of my entire life, I am seriously attached, so I knew it would kill me if I didn't get a picture of her and I together during my spring break visit back home. Might not be the best picture of me, but she looks fabulous! She hadn't seen me or my sister for at least 6 months since we've been busy with college, so she was really excited. I get warm fuzzy feelings just thinking about her.

And this is a close-up of our family cat. We also saved her from an abusive situation as a kitten, and she hates every one but Mom. Oh well. Her name is Simmie, but we just refer to her as "The Cat."

Otto was a dwarf hamster. I had another one named Delilah, but sadly the only pics I had of her were on my old phone and it got snapped in half, so I know how you feel about losing precious pics! She looked a lot like this though.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear about Shelby. That's got to be hard, not knowing. But I hope she will continue to live for many years. I know how bad it sucks to be away from your pets, I went away to school last year and I missed my cat something fierce. And I will just will never understand how people can abuse/and or neglect animals. My b/f's parents have a german shepherd who was found half starved w/ an embedded collar. Shit like that just boggles the mind. :2angry:

Yeah, it is hard to be away. Sometimes when I get homesick, I think, "Ah, I miss my mom ... OMG I MISS SHELBY!" Haha! And she's not even like those annoying little yippie dogs, either. She's just so sweet and lovable, and she only barks where there are squirrels invading our property.

And I can't understand how people can abuse animals either. From what I understood, the people who have a ranch next to my grandparents' ranch have/had some sort of dog breeding business. However, it just got overrun with too many dogs and not enough people to take care of them, so the living conditions weren't the best. Also, there were like two or three rowdy little boys who lived on or visited the ranch, and I heard that they would actually kick and throw the little puppies! Look at Shelby's face, she's so cute, how could you do that!?! It took her years to even go near my dad, and to this day she still won't go near males. She always runs away and hides unless my sister, my mom, or I am holding her.

As for the cat, I was hanging out with some friends at a skate park in Jr. High, and some guys had her in a box were doing jumps over it. I was horrified, so I grabbed the box and ran as fast as I could all the way home. She had a swollen eye and something was wrong with her claws on one of her front paws, but my mom got her all healed up. Like I said, she hates everyone but my mom.

Kicking and throwing puppies?! Ollying over a cat?! UGH! People make me sick with how they abuse animals. I'm so glad you were able to get both of your pets out of a bad situation. And I give you major props for grabbing the cat and running. You're a-ok in my book. :-)

I'm not that familiar with craiglist. I guess I could check. I'm just so afraid he'll go to someone who will be abusive or sell him to a lab where they will use him for experiments. (Does that really happen or is that my overactive imagination?) Every morning I say that tonight he goes to the shelter. This morning was no different. We'll see what night brings.

If taking care of dogs wasn't so darned expensive I could keep him but he's not been neutered and since we don't know anything about him he'll need shots. I think I'll call the vet today and see how much it would cost.

I just keep thinking if I take him to the shelter he might get a nice home with a fenced yard or in the country where he can run more. Then I start thinking he might not get a home at all and they'll put him down. I suck at making decisions. I was counting on husband yelling his head off about him being here and forcing me to get rid of him, but he kinda likes him, dammit. lol
