I would probably slip into a coma in that house... I am so obsessively neat and clean. My brain would shut down.
You and your dogs are cute though.

That is just your storage shed, right?
I am just heartbroken. On Saturday I got a call from Australia saying that my beautiful little dog Lollie had died. My brother called her over to him when he got home from work and she ran towards him and collapsed. He rushed her to the vet. When they got there, they said that she had a massive heart attack. They could have kept her alive but the vet said the kindest thing to do would be put her to sleep. So that's what my brother did.
It was totally unexpected. She was only 9 years old. The saddest thing now is that her little mate Dodge is so lost without her. He just wanders around the house and sits by the door. Does anyone have any advice on what we should do? My brother went to an animal shelter and they said that dogs have short memories but if we wanted to get another dog, we should get a female one that is younger then him.
I don't want another dog, I just want my girl

So sorry for your loss, honey.
I had two kitties, brothers, who spent their entire lives together. When Willie died, Beaumont was very depressed. He stayed in my parents bed, grunting, for several days. We showered him with lots and lots and lots (almost obsessively) love. Hours of grooming, kisses, petting, scritching, etc. He came out of it in about a week, and went back to normal after about a month. We never got another cat until after Beaumont passed too (about two years later). While getting another pet may be right for your lonely one, you have to be sure that YOU'RE ready too... otherwise you'll end up resenting the new kid.
My old lady Twiggy is gonna pass one day, and my baby kitty Voltaire will have to make a new friend. I've decided to try to foster kitties in need, that way Voltaire and I can agree on a new friend for him when we find the right one, and help some in need while we look for him/her.

My mum called me yesterday from a pet store. She said there was a gorgeous little girl - Jack Russell x Maltese and asked if she should get her? I said that she really shouldn't rush in just because the puppy was there. I told her to goto the animal shelters and look in the paper and she should really get a dog that fits. I would be so scared that Dodge would hate the new dog and we would be stuck :|

Don't let them get a new dog until you get back so you can bond with it.

he's a puppy, he's not even two years old yet. but he bit someone in my yard, i posted about it in the MDSLJ, hoping someone could give me some advice. i'm afraid my ins. co. or the city might make me put him down now, or just get rid of him. he's a good dog, he never bit anyone before. i think he was only trying to protect my stepdaughter who is nine and so broken up about the whole mess. ![]()

What kind of dog is he? They need to have a reform school for dogs! Can you get him trained as some type of 'proof' that he probably won't do it again?

he's a german shorthair pointer, this is totally out of character for these dogs. my bf's parents have always had GSPs since he was a kid--because he got bitten himself and the trusted them around their kids.
the guy who was bit didn't want to even go to the hospital (we made him), he understands that albert is a good dog and that he was probably just protecting liah, my step daughter. he was tied up and everything when it happened, it's not like my dog ran into his yard to hurt him or anything--it was on my property. i'm hoping that once he talks to the insurance people it will all blow over, and i do plan on getting albert in a training class so he's a better socialized. we have people over quite a bit, however, and the worst thing he's ever done is shit on the carpet if he doesn't like someone.
it's just hard, you know? animals quickly become part of your family, and poor liah is just heartbroken over the whole incident. if we do have to get rid of albert, i think it will be awhile before i can get another dog.

Is the guy who got bitten going to take it further?

i don't think he will, but you never know, you know? he could find out later there is more damage then they thought and i could get screwed... it sucks not knowing what might happen!

It wouldn't be fair if he did seeing as he was on your property! It's a dog's instinct to protect their territory.
Bert gets a free hero pass today...
Last night at like 4 a.m. I heard him run out the doggie door to the back yard and snarl and bark more ferociously than I have ever heard him. I told Oly to get up because someone was in the back yard, but he said I was crazy. The dogs barked for like 15 minutes.
This morning the gate was wide open. Someone was definitely in the back yard, but I'm sure Bert scared the crap out of them.
That is really troubling though. :|

Can you put a lock on your gate(s)? We lock both ours now. Our backyard was ransacked once (I think they were looking for a hide-a-key) and the garage was broken into a few weeks later (cut screen, broke window). Fuckers took my best gardening gloves.

Do good quality gardening gloves have a high black market value?
