enjoy the time you have. but the thing is, if she isnt going to get any better, then whenever you decide for her, the time is right. She will not know the difference.
this is good to remember. we keep looking at her and saying: awwww! she's still happy to be alive! but today she seems stuck on repeat doing circles. it was pretty funny the first 24 laps back to the water dish (like when a small child keeps doing something silly) but now it's kinda of creepy and sad. i wonder if she's just trying to wear out her body or if she got hit by a sudden bout of dementia related ocd... mom made an appointment for tomorrow and is super upset. my poor mommy.

thank you, everyone for your sympathy and kind words.

Yeah that's a dementia thing. So sad.

we put chaos to sleep yesterday, and you know what? it was a really good thing.

we had made an appointment for the morning, but my pops got a recommendation from my sister for a vet who comes out to the house after hours to do it at home so we cancelled to morning clinic and went with that. my mom was really upset because she had to work when he came but she ended up saying goodbye before she left.

it was really peaceful. she wasn't scared, she was surrounded by family and i got to pet her until she was gone. we picked up a card for my mom, took some ink and pressed chaos' pad onto the card with a note thanking her for being ok with letting her go at home (mom was really feeling bad about not being there). everything worked out so well.

that vet provides an amazing service and i'd highly suggest that anyone who has to go through this should call around and ask if their local vets provide this kind of in home service. we all ended up feeling really good about it in the end!

I really cried over this. I love that you and your dad inked her paw. I never thought of that, but will keep that in mind when my babies pass on. I also love the idea of the vet coming to your house. Sorry for your loss.

you crying made me cry a little bit... chaos was a really big, really old dog. in retrospect, none of us could imagine putting her through the torture of getting in the car and going to a clinic for this! it was pretty funny putting the ink on her paw... it was cheap stamp ink, so i had to put a pink sock on her foot the rest of her day to prevent her from leaving paw prints all over the house! that's a good memory to leave with. such a good sport!

I teared up, again. I'm a softy. I love the vet coming to your home. My cats freak out so bad when they are put in the car carrier and toted off to the doc. I want their passing to be as comfortable as possible. Can you imagine what they feel when they know they are going to the doc? At that be one of their last memories? And their last memory being of seeing your face in a foreign place? It crushes me to think about. I want them to pass at home, in a familiar atmosphere, with me holding them. I can't think about it, it tears me up. Btw, all the questions were rhetorical The inked paw is definitely a good memory to leave with.

Im sorry you had to go thru that, that's sad. My aunt had the same thing happen with her but with both her black labs. Goof was 16 yrs old! He was mostly blind and completly deaf. My aunt knew he wasnt doing well but she would make the decision that the next day they would put him down but then he would get up and chase a squirrel or something and so she just couldnt do it. If he didnt seem to be okay on those certain days, it was realy hard for her to justify.

My uncle, Aunt's brother passed away in February of last year and my aunt brought goof down from washington with her and on the way home, she said she could just feel that something was clearly different with him. As they pulled into the driveway when they got home, they brought goof into the house and he passed away.

i'm glad it happened naturally for goof... especially for your aunts sake! it's such a hard decision to make. i guess it's like any old person - they have their lucid days and their bad ones too. of course, we don't make the decision for our old people... maybe that's another reason dogs got it lucky?

from reading your posts, i know how much you love pups! thank you!

I was never an animal lover before. I just happened to get a breed that my husband had in the past and so we went with it together and i adore them a lot.

My aunt had Goof and she also had Nikki. Nikki passed before Goof did and they went thru the same for her as well. They gave her some kind of a med for the trip to the vet and the vet came out to the truck and gave her the injection that way.
My aunt was so upset and even tho it's not legal, she buried her dogs on her property.
She has gracie now and gracie was with goof and now goof is gone and gracie is just so sad all the time. My aunt is taking one of my pups and she is so excited about it. Gracie takes a tennis ball and crawls up a step ladder to get on a trampoline and will jump for hours. Very happy dog.

I should also say that my aunt did the whole acupuncture, pain meds, everything for her dogs, she adored them so much, she couldnt stand to ever see them suffer.

    Good lord tara.

Animosity, I have bullmastiff/old english Mastiffs mix. They are amazing dogs, I love then to pieces. My sister has a pit that she got awhile so that was super sketchy because she was beaten but she had came along real nicely with my sister and doing so much better. She isn't afraid of people like she was before.

i just assume all big dogs are pits... and people seem real loyal to the breed. i know very little about mastiffs.

i had a crazy lesbian roommate once who was obsessed with pit bulls. she had 3 or 4 of them which she kept locked in her downstairs apartment, one of which was her last roommates that she rescued after he was taken away for biting someone at a cafe! she worked ALL day long and had some guy come by and walk them once a day. she left a tv on for them constantly and we weren't allowed to use the gigantic back yard because the dogs in her room would get so riled up that they'd destroy everything in her room and pull the curtains down.

god! i hated her... we eventually got kicked out of the house because even though i was constantly doing interviews for new roommates, no one would move into a house with 4 pit bulls and we ended up not making full rent for a few months. she moved out of the house before me and i had to clean up downstairs for the deposit. i had never gone down there before that... it was soooooo disgusting! like breathing anomia. the girl seemed fairly put together otherwise, she had a good job. i can't imagine how she could live in such filth! what a tool. some people should not have animals.

that's a story about pits for you. my little dog judy sure does love them though.

i had another roommate who had a pit that was super friendly and well behaved. my guess is: 1 pit = great dog. 4 pits = utter insanity.

the same can be said for dog's in general, i guess. it's hard to train multiple dogs right. if you have 1 dog done right, it shouldn't be hard to introduce and train another, but unless you're a dog whisperer, training several crazy ones all at once ain't gonna happen. i feel like well meaning people love the dogs so much but end up getting frustrated and give up trying to maintain any control over their animals. it's sad for both animals and owners.

Real pit bulls, generally weigh 35-50 lbs. Not really that big. What do your babies weigh wttb?

You won't find a nicer dog than a nice pibby. Sadly, when assholes mistreat a dog they can make any dog vicious.
