She's okay. We got the Destolit and she's been on it since Saturday. She actually seems perkier and is eating like a horse. We have to take her back when she's nearing the end of the meds.
I'm still putting Fucidin on the lesion on her back. We didn't see the same vet on Saturday, the one we saw was nicer and said that with liver damage the skin can become very weak and poor, so we're hoping that that's what the lesion is.
She's happy as a pig in shit, so I'm stoked.
Good news Tarren, glad to hear it.  Have you tried giving Poncho brewer's yeast tablets for the skin?  It works really, really well and is available over the counter.  I'm sure you can find it at Tesco's or any pharmacy.
So I have a dog question.  At 4.30 this morning I was awoken to the lovely sound of Ralph chucking.  He was kinda heaving and he eventually managed to get up a piece of raw bone that I assume came from the meat bone he was given yesterday.  He seems okay now, no more vomiting. Do you think I should be worried?

Has anyone else had labs before?  I have been finding these kinda weird scab like things on both dogs (they don’t have fleas and don’t scratch excessively).  They are about the size of a penny and seem to be kinda scabby with hair growing over?  You can’t see them unless you part the hair in the area.  It sounds gross but they don’t seem to be worrying them?  My theory is that it may be where they bite and play with each other and it’s just healing?  But I don’t know??  I have found 2-3 on Baxter and a few on Ralph.
Yes on both counts, but don't lose your mind over it.  About that bone - labs are notorious for eating anything they can get their teeth on.  Keep a close eye on Ralph to make sure he doesn't have more bone stuck in him.  I don't know what kind of bone or how big it was when it went down and how much of it came back up, but you should watch for trouble eating, trouble going to the bathroom, blood in the stool (looks black), listlessness, loss of appetite (almost impossible in a lab, I know) and general discomfort.

About those scabs - could be ringworm, and they can pass it along to you.  I tried finding a good picture of canine ringworm on line, but none of them are close enough to get a good comparison.  Also, skin conditions can be signs of all sorts of internal problems in dogs and cats, but since they both have it I'm more inclined to think it's playful bite marks like you suspect, or something more localized (and contagious) like ringworm or mange.  In any event, keep an eye on the spots.

Me too but Louis takes that veeeery personal.  His belly is off limits to touching although he shows it all the time, the big tease.

    Re: MDS pets

So I have booked Ralph into the vet tomorrow - Kimtisha made me paranoid   On a serious note, I will feel terrible if it is ringworm    I just assumed that a bald patch on his leg was from a bite but maybe not.

Here are my babies today - Baxter is 10 months and Ralphy is almost 6 months

    - Baxter complete with sleep near his eye

Ralph - complete with bald spot/possible ringworm (opinions please!)  :|  Looking less like a lab every day

    Tired baby

    What do you want?

My lab/golden mix gets the scabs from dry skin.  I initially thought it was ringworm. It could be.
Oatmeal baths helped cure it for her.

Bones are banned from my house....  what kind of bone was it?

How do you make the oatmeal bath - can you let me know the ingredients (if anything besides oatmeal!) and how much?

It was a big raw meat bone - not sure what animal but the hubby got it from the butcher.  Usually they just chew on them because it's literally prehistoric looking and huge but ralph obv managed to get a chunk off this time  :|

i grind plain dry colloidal oatmeal (no flavors or sugary stuff, )into a powder with a blender.  I then put into warm water and mix it for the bath. I also keep some to the side and make it pasty and put that directly on dry spots. you can also but oatmeal baths for dogs.

If it wasnt poultry he probably got it all up. Plus it was raw that helps, it doesnt break into shards so easily.

Do you think I should take him to the vet or should I just do the oatmeal bath first?  He doesnt seem bothered by it?

It doesnt hurt to take him. You never know.  I personally would try bath but that is because I have been through it once and it wasnt ring worm.  I am in no way saying it isnt ringworm, since i haven't even seen the dog.  You can get ringworm from the dog. If it is circular and scaly , I would have him checked for the ringworm.

It could be just some type of dermatitis. flea allergy, food allergy, general allergy.

ringworm isnt an emergency.  More annoying than anything.

What i would do is clean it with hibistat. they have wipes and it helps with ringworm. It is antimicrobial. i would clean it everynight with that until improvement.  You dont want to bathe too much but I would bathe him once and then follow up with oatmeal directly on the spots. If you see 0 improvement in a week or two, i would then go to vet.

Apple cider vinegar is also antifungal.  You may want to try cleansing  his scabs with that as well.

Is hibistat a human thing?  I have never heard of it - I hope we can get it here.

I do have apple cider vinegar too.  I might give him an oatmeal bath and then use the vinegar?
Thank you so much for your help

yes it is a human thing but we have it in our doggy first aid kit. this is the manufacturer website http://www.hibiclens.com/
it has chlorhexidine which you can find in some surgical scrubs.
i get it at the drug store.

    and your plan sounds good.

Exactly!  And...um...Link hasn't been neutralized?  I see what appear to be testicles.    Bob Barker would not be happy.

Portia - I love your puppies.  They're so cute!

Olivia - Sorry for causing a panic.  I'm not saying you have to rush him to the vets but keep an eye on things.  I can't see your pictures from work but I would try everything Sogs said up there.  And like she said, ringworm is more annoying than harmful - I'd be more worried about it being mange or something like a staff infection which can drive your poor babies crazy with the itching, but it doesn't sound like it since the dogs don't seem to notice it.  Also, you can smell mange.  It has a distinct, nasty smelling dog odor to it.  The smell will also cling to their bedding and anything else they regularly use.
