Blah. We took one of my cats to the vet for her yearly, and found out she now has a heart murmur. The vet did blood work to check if the cause was hypothyroidism (maybe it was hyperthyroidism I don't remember), but she doesn't have that. Now, on December 10th I have to drive to a specialist 30 minutes away so she can have an echocardiogram to figure out exactly what the problem is, and how to treat it. It's going to cost $434.00.

ugh. Thats sad. I hope everything turns out ok.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me or point me to a website to figure out how to get my 2 cats to get along. We have been trying to introduce them slowly but the bigger one(ALMOST 7 MONTHS) isnt having it. He wants to kill the 4 month old.
plus my kitten is nameless. Any suggestions? He is a boy and want a manly name.
Chuck the Christmas cat. 18 years young and still goin' hard.

We kept ours totally separated for the first 4 or 5 days. We set up the new kitty in the spare room with her food, litter and toys. There was much hissing and growling between the doors.. Finally we decided just to let the new cat out and see what happened. I still left the new cat's food, water and litter in the other room. They never really fought at all, they just hissed, growled and swatted at each other. After another week I noticed our first cat was using the new litter box so I just replaced the old one with the new box and moved the new cat's food in the same area as the other cat.
I think they are getting along now. Sometimes they growl and swat at each other and chase each other around the house. I'm not always sure if they're playing or pissed off at each other. I came upstairs yesterday and they were sleeping on the couch near each other.. their feet were touching! Cats are so finicky. It may take a long time for them to get on.. or maybe they never will. Cats are such bitches!

Like what Trahnse said, keep the new kitty in a different room. Give 'em a chance to smell each other underneath the door and whatnot. Then take the new kitty out and let your other kitty in so they can wander around and smell all the smells and whatnot. I kept my girl in my room for about a week and then let the other kitties in to smell the room and then eventually let them meet her the second week. It wasn't too bad at all. :)
Also, ZEUS! It's such a bad ass name. haha ;)

It has been so hot here - like 35c or 100f every freaking day. We hosed him down the other day - he has turned into a proper water baby and he wanted to come in but I wouldn't let him because he was wet. It's just too cute.
I am super nervous because we left him at home alone today for the first time ever. I hope he doesn't a)bark so much that one of the neighbours poison him or b) escape!
This one was taken last night when he was lying on the tiles trying to get cool

He's just gorgeous, Olivia! Have you thought about crating him when you're not at home?

sure
ooooooooook. i have a problem. my female cat, mini fuzzin, just sprayed some white stuff. wtf? she's never sprayed anything before, i dont know what to do! jarrod and i just got back home after being away for a week. could that have stressed her out, and caused her to spray?
[/quote]
Absolutely - they hate change. Also, was someone checking in on them while you were gone? If our litter box isn't to her liking, little miss Olga will pee elsewhere. Also, when I go away for business, she'll be TOTALLY pissed at me for about two to three days once I get home. I'm talking hissing, screaming and swiping.
Thank god G.G. is more forgiving

Yes and no. I don't think crating is as big here as it is in the states - not sure why but I don't know a single person who crates their dog/s. The puppy school lady said it may be good if you are having real troubles with toilet training etc but he is going ok with that. Do you crate Pablo?
I really wish homeless cats would stop flocking to me. My mother and I were TRYING to go for a walk. We get like 15 minutes away, hear a door slam, and then a cat howling. I look behind me, and a freaking cat is chasing me down the street. It literally wouldn't go away, and almost got hit by a car. So, I picked it up and took it to the house it got thrown out of, and 3 others only to be told by each house that it had been hanging around for weeks, and no one knew where it came from. The house that threw it out said that they wanted to keep it but couldn't. I definitely couldn't keep it. We have 9. One of mine is getting an echocardiogram next Thursday, which is going to cost almost $500. I can't keep another. I have an 8am class tomorrow, and it's the last week before finals so I couldn't really miss to take it to a shelter tomorrow morning.
So, I took it to Petsmart, and made up a big lie about some one dumping it in the parking lot. They took it. One of the rescue organizations is going to take it in the morning. I had to bitch out the cashier because she wasn't going to get a manager to take it. I could tell she thought it was MY cat, which it WAS NOT.

Bengals!!I posted a shitload of pics a little while back, these cats love water!
Here is one persons answer to a problem similar to yours...
http://cats.about.com/cs/behavioralissues/f/cathateskit.htm
Your first mistake was keeping the cats together from the beginning. Introducing a new cat to an existing one should be a very slow process, by keeping them separated at first but able to sniff each other through the crack of a door, until they are accustomed to the new scent. Then perhaps putting one of them (the newcomer) in a cage where the existing cat can come around and sniff some more and see that he is not a threat. It's also suggested to rub a towel on each cat and put it in the other cat's bed so he/she will become accustomed to the smell. Cats have a well-honed sense of smell and they use it to identify friends from strangers.
Once they get used to each other's scent, you can try re-introducing them, maybe by playing with them using a wand-type toy. Slow and easy is the key, and give each of them special attention without the other around. Although your older kitty may never be "best friends" with this little interloper, at the least, they will be able to tolerate each other. The good news is that may very well take a maternal interest in the kitten, once she realizes it is not a threat. I've seen this happen many times.
I'm not sure if any of this would work at this point, given the length of time they've already been together, but it's worth a try. I think it's important to give Purdy her own "safe room" where she can relax away from the little interloper. She should have her own food and water dishes, her own litter box and bed there, and you need to continue giving her plenty of love and affection.
This is my big bad guard dog (so he thinks... little dog syndrome ) Jack. He' a 2 year old Maltese x pomeranian. I paid a fortune for him and then found out he suffers from epilepsy. Not that that would've changed my mind at all, I love him to death but god it's hard to watch him seizure. Heartbreaking :-(
He and my son are the best of mates :-)

Not currently. I bought him as a pup and he was fine. Never had a seizure for the first yr I had him, then he was taken from my yard and was missing for almost a yr before I got him back through his microchip (thank god!) My vet believes he has suffered head trauma, possibly beat around the head and thats what causes it. He only seizures if he has a knock to the head. He was asleep the other day on his daybed and must of rolled off and hit the deck. Triggered the worst seizure I've seen him have. Very scary. But because they are infrequent they haven't put him on medication. Makes it very hard to leave him at home alone :-(
There are quite a few beasties that share my home but let me introduce you to Larry the great white hunter:
I love it when cats sleep like this:
Larry moved in with me from out of the blue, skinny and full grown but very young. He loathed my husband (now ex) and even after getting the snip sprayed all of his stuff - even blew up a computer monitor.
He's about 9 now and has the scars to prove it. Gee, I've kept him longer than any man - oh! He must be good because I am allergic to cats and kind of always preffered dogs but this pretty boy has my feline heart.
