Akita's are beautiful dogs.
My friend works for an insurance company and if you have an Akita they're unlikely to insure you. I know they're very territorial, but I never thought they were that big of a worry.

They are unfortunately. Theyre not needlessly aggressive or anything, and they dont mentally snap like a lot of dogs do. But the territorial thing in them is really extreme. Mine couldnt be outside at all when I wasnt present due to him wanting to eat anyone that came in or near the yard. Protecting their family is first and foremost on their minds all the time.

Quoted for truth. Great dogs, but you're right about the territorial thing. Nicole Simpson's akita must have been the sole exception to this commonly accepted generality about akitas. Hers let a total stranger come into the yard and murder two people. Hmm. Too bad that dog couldn't testify.... :|

LOL yanno i was just thinking about that the other day. All they needed was to let an akita breeder testify to catch the hint that dog had to know the killer.
Either that or Kato truly was the sole exception.
Not sure if anyone remembers it, but last winter I wrote about my brother-in-laws cat that acts like she's been abused. My brother-in-law stays with us, and I honestly don't care much for him. Most of it has to do with his animals that he doesn't take care of at all. His cat would hide under his bed 24/7. She was really scared of us, and terrified of Mark (her owner). And then when he went to Russia in April to visit his little love interest we decided we would try to show her some love and tame her. And keep her in our bedroom. I thought the project would be ruined as soon as he came back, but it's amazing to see how much she's changed! Here's her before and after video. First video is taken in February, and last one in August.

Oh yes, it's because of him. He got her way too early. I think she was 4 or 5 weeks old. He's very loud. He's never hit her, it's more like mental abuse. He scares her by being loud. Screams a lot. He's been treating her a lot better lately though, because he's jealous that she prefers to stay in our bedroom. When we have the door to our bedroom closed she will dig at the carpet under the door to try to get in.

Wow. It doesn't even look like the same cat. She looked so completely scared in the first video. It's amazing how much she's come out of herself. I'm with Nocturnity, keep her for yourself.

Well, I guess I hope if he's being loud, it's because he's just a loud person, not because he's an asshole screaming at an animal for no reason.

UGHHHH i LOVE LOVE LOVE goldens!! i have a bunch and my mom owns a really successful recuse group out here called www.Dirksfund.com. they are all around great animals.
and about the insurance thing, its really sad that a select few people who treat their animals like shit, and therefore the animals arent friendly, or nice , are the main reason that Pitbulls, Rotts, Dobbies, Chows and Akitas get bad reps alot. and those are some of the sweetest animals, its always the little pip-squeak dogs that bite me

Hi all...Im new to this forum....and was given the link here by another animal lover here.....My name is Sherry...I work in animal rescue (pitulls mainly) and I recently married the most wonderful man (7/8/08)...And here's a few photos the big love of my life "Hailey Beth"....She is one of my rescues...She was rescued along with the rest of her litter when the owner/breeeder of these pups was arrested...They were 12 weeks old with no mother or daddy to be found...Just the puppies...left behind...
Well, most of us who rescued them adopted one of them...Actually, we all did...(suckers)....And I am so glad to have her in my life...She is 2 now...and is about to undergo double hip replacements (not at same time)....due to SHD... :-( But soon she will be able to run pain FREE!!!! :-D
And here' her first time ever being to the beach....She was a total BEACH BUM after about 2 days....
I look forward to making some new friends....
In this country your supposed to be "Innocent" until proven "Guilty. Unless you are a Pitbull, which means your "Guilty" until proven "Innocent".
Awww what a beautiful girl :)
Hailey is PRECIOUS. I can't wait until September when we get to take Mindy (our baby) to the beach for our first time together!!
Congrats on your nuptials. Being married in your 40's is so great (at least is has been for me!!)
