I think it should be limited to people with a BMI that's overweight or obese.

I don't think people will post photos of themselves on a scale with the weight showing.

I will do the opposite and try to gain weight. I might be able to get up to 115 pounds if I really try.

You lost 40 pounds in a month?

I would do this if I wasn't too embarrassed to post pictures of my fat.
[/quote] I'm not sure how much I lost when exactly, but between the end of August and the middle of last month, I lost 40lbs. I'm assuming the bulk of it was during the month I was living on saltines and sprite.

Why?  Just because you are not overweight or obese doesn't mean you are living and eating healthy.

Re: The MDS Biggest Loser Challenge

    Fail Amy.

I weigh more than you.  Lots.

So yeah, I won't be posting or sending my weight to Wick, or posting pictures, but I will be participating behind the scenes.  I think it's nice of Wick to offer up a monetary prize, even though just losing some extra lbs is totally better.

My duder keeps telling me he'll get me a membership to our Wellness Center, for the pool.  I've been bitching up a storm lately about the weight situation.  I just need to get moving around again. After getting laid off from construction, I've probably gained 20lbs in 8 months.  I used to swim competitively back in school and be lean....I want to get back to that.

Sooooo, this will be nice just to follow and hopefully keep up with you people who are officially participating.

    Good luck errrrbody.

How tall are ya tho Kara?  Last time I weighed myself I'm almost at 145 at barely 5'3" I was heavier, but getting sick helps you lose weight too   My in-laws digital scale listed me at 160 before I got sick (I lost about 7ish lbs just from poopin lol!), but my one at home had me at 150.  My scale is inaccurate, I think, but I guess I can still read any weight loss from any kind of point I register on there now.

I'd love to know my true weight, my mom in law said hers is pretty dead on...ugh, means I'm actually at almost 155 if I got on her scale.

And I agree with april, it should be limited to those of us who are actually medically overweight.

I guess you make a good point as well.  Just watch out cos us bigger gals have more to lose, literally ;)  I'm planning on losing way more than 10 or 15 lbs

BMI is not the most accurate to determine if someone is actually a "healthy" weight or not. There are a lot of other factors that offset it.

I agree with decorus. I don't think people should be barred from participating because of that.

I don't think what she means is being/living/eating healthily... I think what she meant is that people who obviously do not need to lose weight shouldn't be competing. I've already seen at least one post so far by someone who doesn't need to lose weight.  :|

I feel I really do need to lose weight, but that isn't the main motivation for me. It's about living healthier. I sit on my fat ass all day at work, go home and sit some more, while eating crap food all day as well. I actually lost about 40 pounds, but I gained it all back when I stopped exercising. I have all the facilities I need in my face (my job has a gym), but out of pure laziness, I don't go.

I'm not doing this to judge who is or isn't fatter than someone else, but I want everybody who wants to feel better about themselves to do this, whether here on the boards or in their own lives. I really hope that we can all pull through and do this together. :-)

Excuse me, but if an extremely thin person comes into this thread and says they need to lose this or that amount of weight, I'm going to say that's probably not the healthiest thing to do.

Also, take your own advice before trying to spout it off on me, thanks.

Ya, I completely agree with Lexa. I mean, you can assume someone doesn't need to lose weight based on pictures, but I think we're all aware that those can be deceiving.

And just because someone can stand to lose 20 lbs more than someone else competing doesn't mean they don't deserve to.
