I love how they gave him basically no time and would only release him back to the states if the death penalty was off the table.

    And damn, that pic sucks.

He won't get convicted here, I'll tell you that right now. No American jury would convict somebody based on something that happened 80 feet below the surface somewhere in the Indian ocean.

I don't think that's true. We frequently get angry about Americans who commit crimes in other countries and thus avoid having to face our justice system. Frankly, I'm just confused by how the states has any jurisdiction here, besides maybe charging him with insurance fraud.

I believe that the argument is that he married her, here in the states intending to kill her. The crime actually started with the wedding and the rest was "laying in wait" etc.,]

It's funny, but some people like calling other people trolls whenever their posts strikes a nerve.

Sorry for the big picture, but you can see Tina dead on the ocean floor on the bottom right of the pic.

Are these the divers that discovered her body?

If I remember correctly, they were out scuba diving with a large group. The picture was an accident...just someone messing around under the water and accidentally got her in the pic.

The diver on the left looks like they are pointed right at her. That water is so clear you'd think they'd have seen her. Horrible.

Here's what I've found from the Wiki:
Other divers were nearby at the time, including Dr Stanley Stutz, who saw Watson engaged in an underwater "bear hug" with his "flailing" wife, after which he headed for the surface while his wife fell to the ocean floor. A fellow diver, Gary Stempler, photographed Watson by chance while taking a picture of his wife that showed Tina in the background. This picture revealed Tina when she was lying on the ocean floor, something that did not come to light until a couple of weeks later when the pictures were developed.[3] Watson climbed aboard the Spoilsport and alerted dive instructor Wade Singleton, who brought Tina to the surface. She was taken aboard the adjacent dive boat Jazz II, where a doctor tried to resuscitate her while Watson remained on the Spoilsport.[4]

Wow, how does he explain that eye witness account?

That seems like pretty compelling evidence until you consider all the experts the defense will bring forward about how hard it is to see in the water and stuff.

Right. I mean it's a circumstantial clusterfuck. He could say she signaled to him to come over and help her, then once he did he swam off thinking she's okay. It might sound shady and make him look bad, but it's hardly a smoking gun.

Not a shocker by any means. We all know he's guilty, but it would've been a disgrace to the American Justice System to convict him based on a blurry underwater photo.

The case had nothing to do with that picture, which incidentally, isn't blurry. It had to do with the eye witness testimony. But unfortunately, the eye witness can only speculate. There's no way for him to prove that he saw what he says he saw, let alone that the hug had the motives behind it they're claiming. It was a very weak/difficult case. This guy, if he did it, planned it really fucking well for someone who looks like a retarded slug.

Some of the things that made me think he was guilty was that he had already been convicted of killing his wife in Australia, and that he bear hugged his wife and disabled her oxygen supply while she was deep water diving in an effort to kill her. Aside from that, I agree with the retarded slug bit.

The judge really should have let the jury decide. All he did was prevent evidence from being entered and then aquit the guy because there wasn't enough evidence in the case. WTF

But there was no solid evidence any of this happened, just a recollection from a witness AFTER he was being charged with murder. And eye witness testimony is largely garbage.
