Just Music Talk

I started to feel bad Taking up all that space in the Confessions thread with the music stuff. So this is for Sue, wicked, phobic, bowie and others. Some pics I took at the MTV Rock Im Park two years ago. Enjoy and talk about music.

I have more somewhere but here's Moz himself.

Look Pete doharty actually showed up for something

    Depeche Mode

    Pharrell

Some dude tripping balls in the DJ tent. I forget who the DJ's were

Two random assholes that had me cracking up for 3 days. Jason Mraz playing in the back

    Metallica

He kept spitting champagne on us. The lryics to his opening song were, "oh patty put the pipe down, if you got the right sound"

He;s been pretty quiet lately though. I think he's letting Amy Winehouse get the attention these days

anyone else obessed with lyrics like me?
it started at an early age. I used to record songs from the radio
and play stop rewind , play stop rewind.... songs to write down the lyrics..

no kid will ever understand that type of dedication in this generation.

I am, In the sense that lyrics are what's most important in a song to me :| I sometimes wonder why I can't remember or I forget certain things But once a songs in my head, The lyrics are there forever. Not just certain songs either, Entire Catalogues by the Artist. Once I'm into your music it's over, I can repeat your words on command :-(

So I have to agree with you on your last statement

yellowcake, i'm extremely envious of the concerts you've been to. i have a friend in boston that looks amazingly like moz and the last time he saw him perform he got a piece of his shirt. i'll just have to make due with my autographed picture.

was pete doherty on stage and SOBER? i wonder...

I'm a total lyrics person! I mean, the music has to sound good to me (I love a good beat), but it's really the lyrics that suck me in. If a band's lyrics are particularly clever, I'm hooked.

This reminds me of Smashing Pumkins. Cos I like their lyrics and their sound, but for the life of me Billy's voice is like nails on chalk board! it's always pissed me off.
 What cracks me up is I read he's a perfectionist, and would play his band's mate instruments on albums cos they weren't doing it right! (and if i'm wrong i'm sure bowie will correct me) anyways, I wish he'd just be the man behind the curtains and let someone else sing!

omfg you aren't kidding. I hate his voice so much. It is so awful but I still have some of their songs I listen to.
    I am really into lyrics.
That's what keeps me hooked on songs more than anything.
I am always writing lyrics down... or phrases that I like. I write down words or phrases that are triggers for my own writing.

Funny you should mention that. I had the radio on in the car earlier and one of their songs came on. At first, I was overcome with a wave of nostalgia. "Oh, Smashing Pumpkins! Yay!" Then I heard his voice and quickly turned the channel.

I also find Kurt Cobain's voice very annoying. But the worst is Axl Rose. I know it's not a popular opinion, but my God, his voice makes my ears bleed! He sounds like a cat in heat.

Honestly, I'm fairly picky about singers. I prefer the ones that can actually sing.

I'm also all about the lyrics. BUT the voice has to be pleasing to me. I prefer male singers, with a few exceptions. Tori Amos being one of them. Her lyrics, her voice, her piano playing, her orchestration.

I particularly love how melodic his voice is juxtaposed against how "scandalous" the lyrics are. Here's this beautiful voice singing, "I got something to say, I killed your baby today....."

i saw morrissey twice last time he was in boston, 1st show only lasted 7 songs-lost his voice. The next show, last October, was great though.

Vega, I'm the same way, ever since I can remember. For anyone who loves excellent lyrics, check out The Mountain Goats.

Same way. Gish, Siamese dream and Mellon collie are amazing albums. But his voice I can only take in doses. He is a musical perfectionist though, you're right. He don't play around. He kicked the drummer out of the band because of Heroin.

I disagree with mishira about axl and cobain. axl's was unique and I can tolerate it and well Cobain? His voice was the voice of my generation :| I can still hear heartache throughout the entirety of Unplugged

one of my favorite voices is Danzig from the misfits. It's completely and utterly unique.
