BEEF I WANT THE BAKLAVA RECIPE!
I will post it.

It was WAY easier than I anticipated.

You need...
A box of filo dough
Crisco or about a cup of butter
4 cups of sugar
1 1/2 cups of crushed walnuts

Take 3 cups of sugar with 2 1/2 cups of water and boil on med until you have a syrup a little thinner than maple. (about 20 min) You can test by taking a little bit out, letting it cool, and making sure it is thick, but not taffy.

Melt the butter or crisco
Put a single sheet of filo dough down, brush it lightly with butter or crisco all the way to the edges, layering the same way until half the sheets are gone.

Mix the crushed walnuts with the rest of the sugar

Layer the rest of the filo dough on top using the same method as before.

Cut the pieces in to the shapes you want (Squares or triangles)

Bake in oven on 350 for about 20-30 min until golden brown and flakey

Take out and pour syrup over the top.

Viola!

I wonder if I can make baklava with like, pecans or something.  Walnuts will kill me.  Do you think it will taste good?

i've used almonds or pecans instead of walnuts and i think it was just as good. pistachios are good too but kind of expensive.

i got this recipe from giada de laurentiis and made them last year. everybody loved them and said they tasted like christmas. i wish i would've taken a picture because the one on the website doesn't match the recipe:

        *  1/2 cup almonds
        * 1/2 cup walnuts
        * 1/4 cup chopped dried apricots
        * 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
        * 2 tablespoons sugar
        * 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
        * 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
        * Pinch of salt
        * 1 stick butter, melted, divided
        * 3 tablespoons honey
        * 12 sheets phyllo dough

Directions

Special equipment: 2 mini-muffin tins

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Place the almonds, walnuts, apricots, bread crumbs, sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves, and salt in a food processor. Run the machine until the mixture is very finely chopped. Transfer the mixture to a small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of the melted butter and the honey and stir to combine.

On a dry work surface place 1 sheet of phyllo. Using a pastry brush and the remaining melted butter, lightly cover the entire sheet of phyllo with melted butter. Cover the first sheet with a second sheet of phyllo and brush with melted butter. Continue until there is a stack of 6 sheets of phyllo. Cut the stacked phyllo rectangle into 12 equal pieces (Cut lengthwise into 4 pieces and widthwise into 3 pieces.)

Gently press each cut piece of phyllo into the mini-muffin tin cups. Press 1 tablespoon of the nut mixture into each of the phyllo cups. Gather the ends of each of the phyllo squares and twist to make a sachet shape. Continue shaping the remaining sachets in the other mini-muffin tin. Bake until the edges of the phyllo are golden, about 20 to 25 minutes. When cool enough to handle, remove the baklava sachets and transfer to a serving plate.

I've never heard of Baklava before. Sounds tasty. I might attempt it at the weekend.
Anyone who says onions make you cry has clearly never been hit in the face with a turnip.

Homemade quince paste.  Never again!  Too much work!  No wonder it's so expensive in the stores.

You eat it with cheese -- sweet, acidic and salty all in one bite.  It's delicious!

It's from Spain.  I just saw it at my local Safeway (NorCal) in the cheese section.  I hear they eat it in Germany, too, but I'm not sure if they do the cheese thing.  I wonder if I can mail you some...
Like what the Hispanics have - empanadas guave y queso. And sometimes they use Filo dough. Very good on a cold morning with a cafe con leche.

I'm starting to freeze meals for when the new baby is born.  Tonight I made three quiches and froze all of them.
Does anyone have any good recipes/suggestions for freezing and reheating?
lasagna's, chicken and dumplings, soups, stews, spaghetti, echiladas, any pasta dish really, and make sure to make use of your crock pot also, you can never go wrong with that.  i put a roast in with french onion soup mixe and some water and then once the meat is shredded i make french dips.

I have the BEST recipe ever for a chowder type soup that freezes so well.  It's potato, bacon (or ham) and corn.  It is my mum's specialty, so easy and THE tastiest thing ever
