i am kinda of happy that mom is doing ham and not turkey. there are only four of us, so i couldn't even wrap my head around that much food.

but you're totally right, an iowan can have corn for any meal. i'm making it anyway. thanks, ang.

or maybe i could make some grits? i've never done that before.

We're going to my aunt's house. I'm making mac and cheese (a first at our thanksgiving) and either pumpkin bread or pie. Apparently we're having lasagna, turkey AND a ham, bc that's not fucking overkill.
Our family has grown so much that my mom rented out the auditorium in my home town. That's overkill.

The ham, turkey, and prime rib won't be overkill.

That really made me lol. I mean, I think there's like 15 people coming, but there's no need for it. Especially since my mom got strong armed into making the ham and she doesn't want to

My mom is getting older so it's up to me to make everything this year. Turkey, Ham, Mashed taters, gravy, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, homemade rolls, stuffing, and than the usual pumpking pies, apple pies and veggie tray.

Pre-smoked turkey (only because my employer buys and has them shipped to us), instant potato flakes, jar o'gravy, and stovetop. Nom nom nom. I hate pie, but I'll probably pick one up for the boy from the store.
Before this job, we had traditional China Moon buffet or Burger King every year, so this is quite the step up.
I just cannot fathom wasting a paid holiday cooking and cleaning all day. If I'm gonna eat 4,000 calories, someone else is gonna cook it and do the dishes, dammit.

Burger King is pretty disgusting to begin with. Since I was working on finishing my finals last night my gf picked up BK. I got a fish sandwich that was dripping with the grease it was cooked in.

That's where you jump. You can skip and hop the rest of the way.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaat least you know it was recently cooked. When I worked there we'd let that shit sit there for hours. :)

Ok how about: I'm cooking a shitload of chicken breasts in the slow cooker to be shredded and frozen for use at a later date. Any recipe suggestions?

I would just cook it regularly then divide it into seperate portions. That way you can use it for various things.

Take one portion and make buffalo chicken dip.

Take another portion and add seasoning to make chicken tacos.

Another could be used for sandwiches.

i've done this and used the chicken for chicken salad sandwiches, protein on a salad, enchiladas, added to soup, etc.
