HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- An alleged hit-and-run driver suspected of fatally striking a young woman and seriously injuring a man in Hollywood posted $50,000 bail on Monday and was ordered to appear in court later this month.

Manuel Munera, 30, of Los Angeles was arrested late Sunday afternoon and booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, said Detective Greg Davis of the Los Angeles Police Department's West Traffic Division.

Munera is scheduled to appear at the Criminal Courts Building in downtown Los Angeles on Nov. 28, Davis said.

Munera was allegedly behind the wheel of a car that struck a 22-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the 6100 block of Franklin Avenue, Davis said.

Sarah Elizabeth Toon, who recently moved to Los Angeles from Dallas, was thrown about 50 feet on impact, Davis said. She died at a hospital.

Luke Coffee, of Los Angeles, was hospitalized in serious but stable condition, Davis said.

The pedestrians were crossing Franklin Avenue northbound at Vista Del Mar Avenue when a car heading east on Franklin struck them, Davis said.

The motorist sped off, and police issued an appeal for public help to solve the crime.

Then, on Sunday afternoon, Munera called police "and said he might have hit something" with his car, Davis said. Detectives arrested him and recovered the alleged hit-and-run vehicle: a silver 2003 Toyota Corolla.
