I don't want any more, but I CAN tolerate others' kids. I'm not an old grumpy hag yet.
[/quote]

I can if they're good kids. Yesterday I was sitting in the dentist's office waiting on my daughter. Some kid comes in and his mom let him bring in one of those god damned loud toys. He'd go to everyone in the waiting room and demonstrate it. My god, it took everything I had not to stomp the damn thing. People's nerves are already tenuous at best in a dental office, and his mother just sat there reading a magazine with a smirk on her face.

I'm turning into an old hag. I like my kids, and I barely like anyone else's. Like when my friends come over with small children, I'm ashamed to say I'm happy once they left. I can't stand the whining, and constant need for attention they have. :2angry:

If your kid is well behaved though, it's a totally different story. But that lady yesterday was cruising for a bruising.

So do we just hang out here if we don't like kids, or can we actually say anti-kid things?

My co-worker brought her 2-year-old into the office the other week because her babysitter cancelled. He was mostly annoying and snot-nosed (literally), as kids his age tend to be. At one point, he wanted to play with my iPhone (yeah, right) and when I said no, it was like he became possessed by a demon. The way his face twisted, he looked like Chucky.

The toy, but you know the kid woulda started wailin' so yeah, maybe the kid. I have two of my own, I never thought I would dislike children.

I tried babysitting, and that went over well for like, a day. I was in tears at the end of the day.

Re: Ron whining about kids/pregnancy/parenting thread.

I got in trouble at my last birthday lunch for blowing out the candles on my cake. The rellies and I, including my 3-year-old cousin, had all gone to a restaurant for a meal to celebrate me leaving teenager-hood, and usually the rest of them will let my cousin blow out the candles on their birthday cakes because... I dunno, because she's a toddler obsessed with fire or something and they figure it's cute to let her pretend it's her cake. Anyway, my cake came out and I noticed my little cousin gearing up to blow out the candles as everyone was finishing singing Happy Birthday... so I just went "nuh uh!", held her back with one arm, and blew them out in one big puff before she could struggle free.

But nooooo, that made me Miss Unpopular on my own birthday because the cousin had to go and have a hissy fit because I dared to blow out my own candles on my own birthday cake. But it was worth it. :P Mwahahah!

+1

It's cause they're selfish little bastards that think the world revolves around them.
And unless a parent steps in to tell them otherwise, they never stop thinking that shit.

I dunno what goes on over there, but the kids here abe being coddled to death.
In some places they stopped having "winners" and "losers" in baseball and soccer games.
I mean cricket and football, sorry.
They just play without keeping score, that way everyone wins!

But the shit is ridiculious.

Well they say "What about the kids that lose? What does that do to their self-esteem?"
So these kids are growing up with no sense of competition, and think that the world is fair.
It's come up in studies, that it's starting to effect the workplace. The kids that grew up without a 'drive to win' are suffering now that they have to deal with real world issues.

We used to dominate the Olympics, but those days are just about over cause China raises their kids to kick ass.

It's starting with athletics, but once it inevitably moves to academics then the country is officially tanked.

That's stupid. It's all well and good sugar-coating everything whilst they are in school but what happens when they leave and realise that the world is a shitty place?

One of my ex-housemates is a English teacher and recently he asked me if I had Shrek on DVD for him to take to school. Apparently he has to teach his class all about Shrek instead of Shakespeare because Shakespeare is considered too hard and the kids loose motivation and self-esteem because they don't understand Shakespeare and it makes them feel stupid. He teaches in a high school

What's wrong with schoolbeing competitive? You can sort it all out early. Hell, the world needs ditch diggers too.

I thought he was winding me up at first but then he showed me his lesson plans for it and then brought home a bunch of their work on it to mark. They spent weeks on Shrek. He says that when he gives them quizzes he's only allowed to make them multiple choice and they have to be really obvious answers otherwise it isn't fair on the kids that struggle

I believe it's important for kids to succeed. It is demoralizing to stand there alone in the outfield, knowing that if someone accidentally hits a ball your way the center fielder is going to break his neck getting there because he knows you aren't going to catch the ball. But that's when parents step in and suggest, "honey, let's try soccer" or "I think band will be a lot more fun for you". It's all about finding your kids talents, not changing the game so everybody wins, or at least nobody looses.

School work, same thing. I know Shakespeare was tough for you, but you kicked butt in pre-calc, or home-ec, or shop or French classes. Find the kids strong point. Don't dumb down the world for them.

Bahhh. Humbug.

I agree. When my ex-housemate told me about his classes, my first question was what about the kids that don't struggle. He says he feels frustrated because he has kids in his class that have real potential but he can't give them work for their level because of the others. That just seems so unfair.

Bahhh. Humbug.

That is the EXACT thing I have said, but without all the cursing.

I agree. When my ex-housemate told me about his classes, my first question was what about the kids that don't struggle. He says he feels frustrated because he has kids in his class that have real potential but he can't give them work for their level because of the others. That just seems so unfair.

On the other side of the coin, studies have shown that kids who are taught to be happy with their efforts as opposed to being happy with their ability tend to be more successful because they are far more willing and less anxiety ridden to keep trying even in the hardest situations.
