The blues took on a whole new meaning on Beale Street over the weekend. Many on the popular music stretch were coming to terms with the death Memphis blues musician, Corey Osborn.

The "Corey Osborn Band" was a regular act at B.B. King's Restaurant. On Saturday, the "Carl Drew Band" performed the song "Tore Down." Singer Joyce Henderson says Osborn often opened with the blues tune at his shows. Henderson says, "We called him the 20 year-old guitar sensation!"

Corey Osborn led his own blues band and quickly made a name for himself on the music scene. He landed his first gig at B.B. King's Restaurant at just 16 years old.

With a candle burning on the same stage that Osborn often performed, the "Carl Drew Band" performed in his memory.

Osborn was killed on Friday, November 28, 2008, after state troopers say he flipped his Mitsubishi Montero while driving on an unfinished section of Highway 385 in east Shelby County.

The life of a rising star cut short, leaving many to miss Corey Osborn and his music.

Henderson says, "This young man had so much talent...he was already one of the greats but he was going to be one of the greatest."

I had the honor to meet this young, talented young man on 3 occasions .......I go to Beale Street several times a year.  I was mesmerized by his talent at such a young age. I know for a fact that Memphis will miss Corey.  :-(
