This one made me absolutely sick.  I'm not a cop hater or anything.  But when you're in your home, you should be safe.  To think that these cops killed this man, just for making a disturbance in a store makes me livid!  Why do cops even carry tasers or pepper spray when they'd rather grab a gun and be done with it.

My heart goes out to that family.  That was just so unfair, especially being that he wasn't armed.  I broke my rule of not contacting family members because I felt like I HAD to express my condolences to this family it's so heartbreaking  sad

Sorry to disagree, but cops have to make decisions quickly...

If that dude was fighting back, and he really felt he was in danger, then he had every right to fire his weapon. As far as wether the shot was justified or not...

GIMMIE PROOF IT WASN'T. Not some website with all his sad friends claiming that he was running. Sorry but crime scene investigators will be able to tell wether the dude was standing over him as the cop claimed... or running away. They obviously have shown they believe the officer was in danger... or else the cop would be in jail or on trial.

i tend to agree with you deadzone...i would like to see more of the true evidence rather than the slanted version his family is touting.  holy shit if he was so freakin innocent why did he run home?

well, we're going to have to agree to disagree.  When he was shot, he was in his own house and unarmed.  You don't shoot an unarmed man.  People fight back physically everyday against the cops and you don't see them shooting people, do you?  Pepperspray or taser would have been effective instead of shooting him in front of his family.

Shit, if someone called the cops because I was acting a dunce in a store, I'd run home too.  I'm not about to judge why he ran!  Thats a moot point.

Unless he was robbing that store or assaulting the people inside, there was no need to shoot.  And where do you think I'm going to get proof that he was unarmed?  Ask him?  Sorry, I can't...he's dead, senselessly.

And it's real ironic people would stick up for a girl (Ashley with the knife) with a knife that was shot, I remember some of you did.  But an unarmed man is open season?

HOWEVER, if evidence comes to light that he was armed with something or fighting to kill the cop, I'll take these words back.  I can only go by what I've read in the article at this point.

I found a huge google search on this, which indicates that the man was mentally ill, but I don't see anywhere that he was armed with a weapon, except for his fists.  Aren't cops trained for this sort of thing?

The cop stated that he was ont he ground, and the man was hovering over him when he fired. My guess it, the guy was reaching for some sort of weapon. Nobody will ever know the truth sadly. His family will tell it in any way to make him look innocent (So they can sue), and they made a huge mistake when his partner didn't enter the home with him.

Ok, I can agree with that.  But as for the cops statement, I just don't believe everything a cop states.  Cops lie too.  But, like you said, we'll never know the truth.  I added his family to my friends list, I don't see anywhere that they plan to sue, maybe I skimmed over it?

It's not... BUT... the officers still have to go and talk to him. AND AGAIN... according to the officer who fired, the man got physical, and at some point had the cop on the ground, a struggle ensued, and he fired. That officer had every right to protect himself. And I still think his family is giving a 1 sided play by play of what didn't really happen. Crime Scene Investigators would be able to tell if that man was shot as he ran away.

Only thing about this is he should have been trained to deal with physical confrontations.  My brother is a Corrections Officer and they have to learn to defend themselves from personal attacks.  Inside the jail, they can't even carry weapons, they rely on pepperspray to subdue the offender.  I still think it's a tragedy

Hello everyone! I'm the webmaster for the Dennis Heberlie website. I can't blame some who have doubts about the website containing Un-truthiness or perhaps a hoax or something more sinister. If someone told me this I'd have serious doubts too. I live in Ste. Genevive County and when I heard it on the news I was shocked. Read about it in the local paper here The Sainte Genevieve Herald. I was talking to friends here about it and heard about a protest across from city hall and attended. Dennis and I were the same age and too much about the case didn't make sense. I met the family and friends of "Heb" and heard their stories and it choked me up. I offered to do a FREE "in memory of"  page. I got pictures  from the fam scanned then and returned them to make the pic you see. I wanted to get statements from the fam to put on the page about Heb and their memories. Everybody was still shookup...I pestered them for the pictures to scan so I put that on the back burner. At the first protest we talked about a petition and went with it. I put every link I could find about Heb and took pictures and added a slide show on the site. It evolved into what it has now, with an alliance with the other families who lost their sons to police shootings. I kept taking the website up a notch at least once a day(and still do) in an attempt to get Attorney Jay Nixon attention. I know right now it tugs on peoples heart strings to wade through all the links and sites but myself and the families of these 4 sons are losing sleep and it's VERY hard on them. many lives have been changed forever. Everyone has told me Heb was a sweet religious child like 5ft 130 pound guy who was annoying at times but would not hurt a fly. He would escort the kids in the trailer part to the bus stop for school since it was on a very busy road, before and after school EVERY school day. He would cut the lawn for free for seniors in the trailer park who didn't have a mower or couldn't affront to pay to have it done. Well liked and known. The shooting officer's wife works for the highway patrol who investigated the case. There is no record I can find anywhere they say that one of their own had been ruled an unjustified shooting. They take care of their own here in our area. Reminds me of the movie Serpico... Like I posted above this story is hard to imagine.  I had never protested before or signed a petition until this time. Some people here are afraid to care. They don't think it's pleasant to listen to read or talk about. I was very unconvertible protesting as the police kept circling around us protesting laughing at us and posting very horrible things to the family and friend of Heb. Lineofduty.com was the worst. They ended up taking "Public Access" away and require you be in law enforcement to be able to login and read the blogs. I think it's great they wanted the posts to be more professional but not allowing the public to see if they have gotten better or worse.  the posts on Topix.net were pretty bad too. Then I noticed it was the exact same stuff posted to the other families who lost their sons. They are being pulled over for no reason and appear to be always following them and parking near their home and watching who comes and goes. They think they are above the law because they are the law. The 151 page highway patrol report was cover very well in our local paper but only in print not the web.I call it "The Highway Patrol investigation report analysis" There are MANY Police Departmental rules and regulations violated THAT caused these wrongful deaths. The cops stories don't match the eye-witnesses in each case. The cops REFUSE to have an independent expert to take a polygraph and clear their name if what they say is the truth. The eye-witnesses have repeatedly offered publicly to the media and law enforcement that they must think they are liars and want to take a polygraph test to prove what they say happened is the TRUTH. They just want the families to take a wrongful death settlement, admit no wrongdoing and not put a remedy in place to avoid it from happening. It's not about money at all, they want justice. And won't settle for anything less than justice to be served. We won't give up until then. A vigil on Heb's birthday later this month is going to also have the family that lost their son/brother to a trigger happy deputy over labor day weekend. The officer involved in the shooting was hired to work here in Ste, Genevieve city police force less than a month after the shooting in Washington County. The Police Chief said he had assurances from the investigators that it would be ruled justified so he hired him. And guess what a week ago it was ruled justified...go figure eh? I'm sorry for the long ass post but I had to get it out of my system. This is just a brief summary... There is much much more to this than I posted the websites hopefully fill in the gaps for you doubters but I will say  this is NOT over, Someday I hope it will be a big news story with results and all of you can say you heard it here first, I added a site for the others now: Simply put I'm try'n to right a major WRONG,
