I can't help but think what a waste, we need loud voices and people who point out wrongs but I guess he felt the publicity he could get by doing this was more than he could get by arguing his case.

Well it is a valid form of peaceful protest that has been used for years and is very effective in that it gets people's attention which is what he wants on behalf of his cause.

Yeah, but..... we're still in Iraq. And he's dead.

Sooooo, what good did it do?

Pretty stupid move, but still sad. What a horrible way to go. Jeez.

If nothing else he is on MDS and all over google which is probably a hell of a lot more than he got before setting himself on fire. I suppose there is only so long you can be sad and angry and frustrated.

Yeah only so long if you're a quitter, I don't care who commits suicide for what reason. If you do it in my eyes you're a quitter.

We don't know what good it has done, you are right it might make no difference at all, but it might, when added to the drip drip of discontent and anger and sense of unfairness and injustice, might help lead to something *shrug* who knows, I suppose he thought it was well worth a try.

cheesy good point...

That reminds me of something my friend and I used to do when we were in middle school and bored. We'd call crematoriums and ask them if they offered discounts on burn victims... hahah

A valid form that is effective perhaps for Buddhist monks but he just looks like a crazy ass white man.  Trust me, the message was lost.
