It doesn't just happen to middle aged and old women, ladies!!!!!!!!
Make SURE you get your yearly exam at your "lady doctor's" office!  A pap smear can help detect cervical cancer at an early stage.  Cervical cancer is the 2nd most common cancer in women worldwide and the leading cause of cancer mortality in women!  Don't let modesty kill you.

RIP China

I'll second that!!!!

I had surgery earlier this year to remove pre-cancerous cells (I had severe dysplasia, and was one stage before actually having cervical cancer). Had my doctor not caught it, I would probably have cancer now. Thank god the surgery was successful, and as of now, I am healthy!

LOL how can you NOT love getting naked, throwing your legs in the air, and getting prodded by a stranger while talking about the last movie you saw??

Whatever, I've done it every year since I was 18 and I'll continue to do it yearly until I die.  My vagina is important!

My sister was diagnosed at 16.
You don't have to tell me twice.
It's also given me a deadly fear of promiscuity.

I LOVE the article on the bottom of the page. I didn't know her (duh), but it made me smile and miss her anyway.
I wonder if the cancer spread or what kind of complications happened...?

I actually do love it..I just didn't want to tell. embarrassed

Just kidding. I am going to have a baby soon...apparently when you have a baby everyone sees your hoo-hah, so maybe I won't mind so much after that.  cheesy

My vagina is important!

i love that!  all vaginas are important!

thought i don't really care for the word "vagina"  i usually use the word opossum.

i love opossums.

cervical cancer is serious and too many women do not take their annual exams seriously.

RIP China.

I don't think there is a good word out there for vagina. I hate them all. I think penis is a much more fun word.  Nod

i'm too old to get it i think.  i'm not a whore or anything but i'm amazed i don't have HPV since it's so common.  i've slept with a few whores afterall.  lol.

we're planning on sending in my step daughter to get the vaccine...i'm not looking forward to having this conversation with her ultra catholic mother but i hope since she got pregnant at a young age she'll be more open to it.

Where do you live? At least here in Portland, it's a sliding fee scale (meaning that if you're broke as a joke, it's free; if you make modest income, it's cheap; if you live well, it's full price). Maybe it's different there?

Most women fight off the virus themselves. Sometimes it just doesn't go away. Odds are you HAVE had it at some point... and your body took care of it.

NYC, 60-80 bucks is the lowest they go.  Nice eh?  This was when I was unemployed and tried to get free health care.  The lesson I learned is the people that are hired to process those apps are the most stupid yet upright people they can find.  They "accidentally" deleted my app 3x.  I gave up after that.
Now I have a real job with insurance but I do really feel for the people that are in a shitty place for the moment and can only to cross their fingers when it comes to health care.

The EXACT same thing happened to me about seven years ago. Thankfully, I've been clean ever since.

Yes, there are dozens of different strains of HPV. I believe around 7 of them are the kinds that actually cause cancer and tend to not go away. Most of the others are the kind that your body can fight and they end up going away on their own.

Plus, once you are exposed to a specific strain, your body builds an immunity to it. Which means you can't be infected by that particular strain anymore (but remember, there are dozens of different strains, which means you CAN get it again).

It always seems to be "a friend" that hears about it and tells the family.  At least that's what I remember reading the most.

Lost me with the "friend" comment (natural blonde, what can I say?)

No, that really sucks! PP's free and reduced cost services have saved my ass. I guess it really is different there....

me too, hence the edit, wtf right?

Used for me too back in the day.  Now, too many people use them rather than paying a co-pay (cheap fuckers) so they charge to deter that.

That "friend" comment was from a different post. I just read it a few minutes ago (someone asked how family members find this site).
