A Polk County Sheriff’s Office report I picked up at jail yesterday goes into great detail about how many investigators find and arrest those who download child porn.
Christopher Alan Mitchell, 26, of Lakeland, was picked up Monday on 40 counts of possessing child pornography, a second-degree felony.
According to the report, a Photobucket.com employee submitted a tip to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children after she discovered a user was possibly uploading child pornography onto the photo-sharing Web site.
The detective sent a subpoena to Photobucket.com for dates and times the suspect uploaded the images to his account. The site responded by providing a compact disc with 504 images of suspected child pornography, as well as a log which included an IP address. One of the images, according to the report, was a recognizable and known pornographic file, depicting a pre-pubescent female engaged in sexual acts with an adult male. The girl is originally from Cary, North Carolina, and the male is currently in federal prison, the report said.
The detective determined that the IP address originated from an internet service provider in Lakeland. He contacted the ISP and obtained a search warrant for the address, the report said.
The warrant was executed Monday. The detective gathered all the occupants of the home in the parking lot and read the warrant. Mitchell admitted to downloading the pornography and uploading it to his Photobucket account, the report said. During an interview, Mitchell also said, “I need help–I would like help,” according to the report.
Mitchell is currently being held in South County Jail.
