The convictions were overturned by appellate court... but in 2007 they were reinstated.  I havent found what happened to the worthless mother yet..

The New Mexico Supreme Court reinstated child abuse convictions against the father and uncle of Baby “Brianna.”

Both the father, Andy Walters, and uncle, Steven Lopez, had been convicted of several charges, including child abuse resulting in death and criminal sexual penetration of a minor and sentenced to more than 50 years in prison.

But their convictions were overturned last year by the court of appeals.

The Supreme Court reversed the appellate court on all convictions for each man, except conspiracy to commit intentional child abuse.

The 5-month-old child, known as Brianna, died in July 2002.

No problem. Smiley

They said in the video that the family put up the cage because they were tired of people leaving things there. So the community set up another marker outside the cage and still leaves flowers and such there.

I don't want to judge the family.....but how could they not want people leaving stuff on her grave(unless it was disrespectful, which I doubt). This poor baby. I am glad they locked up all three of those bastards. I bet they are all in protective custody so the other inmates can't get to them.

I bet it wouldn't be a big issue if it was just flowers...but I bet tons of people are leaving things like little trinkets or teddy bears and it makes her grave look gaudy. I don't understand the headstone part though. Those things are really expensive and most people would/should be appreciative if their community came together and helped purchase one. I don't believe that anyone should be laid to rest without one. To me..it's almost like saying that person didn't matter  sad cry

I know for me personally..and as an adult...sex can sometimes hurt. I find it disgusting anyone would EVER think to do that to a baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And her own father!! I'm also disgusted by the sentencing! 50 some odd years doesn't seem long enough compared to the torture that precious baby endured. bless her heart  cry

I don't think that's it at all.  They don't give a shit about what her grave looks like.  it's dirty and there's a god damn cage around it.  They are just bitter, nasty people.
I wish death on them all.  all of them.

shit...judge the family...
They tortured her, killed her and then want to act like she never even existed by not letting anyone remember her.
If we dont judge and set some standards for how we expect humans to behave, then who will?

Hope they suffer a horrific death themselves, then serve lucifer for an eternity. evil

Brianna Lopez
Brianna Lopez lived a lonely life. There was no one willing to help Brianna when her father and uncle spent the night of July 19, 2002, tossing her around, causing the injuries that finally killed her. Her wounds were so graphic that hardened police officers who had investigated such crimes for 20 years needed counseling.

Behind the immediate wounds were signs of constant abuse that spanned most of Brianna’s five months on earth. Fresh human bite marks and bruises covered old ones. Ribs were broken, then healed. Brianna had been shaken several times. She had been raped.

Though the community raised thousands of dollars to help the family pay for a funeral and memorial, family members rejected the gesture, and the money. They buried her privately, quickly and quietly in a cemetery in Doña Ana, excluding even some family members from attending. Shortly thereafter, the dirt mound above the grave was raked flat, and the identification marker was removed.

The marker was later returned. But when people who had never met Brianna repeatedly visited the grave site to leave flowers and honor the child, the family built a locked, metal enclosure around the grave site.

A ceramic, cherubic angel, with its right index finger in front of its lips, tells those who pass by to keep quiet. As the community struggles to understand why seven children have died in Doña Ana County in the last 31/2 years due to child abuse, experts are pointing in part to the type of isolation Brianna’s family demanded after her death. Families without a support system have less ability to cope with the inevitable stress that afflicts all families. District Attorney Susana Martinez said most of the seven children who have died have been members of isolated families.

What is this families problem!! I can't believe they excluded other family members. I hope that these peoples "rights" are taken away!! where in the hell were they when she was still alive...why didn't they protect her then!

Little Brianna’s story brought so many emotions out in me, from angry, to shock, to complete sadness. That poor poor baby. It is more than heartbreaking, it is more than anyone could ever write to try and explain how we all feel.

RIP sweet baby, you have God to protect you now

Since I live in NM, I have heard a lot about this story over the years, and it makes me physically ill every time I hear it.

The immediate family can rot in hell IMO, since so many of them knew about the abuse and did nothing to stop it. As for the two "men," they are going to have one of two things happen in prison. 1. They will have a long lonely 50 years in protective custody. 2. The other inmates are going to make sure that they dont live to see a parole date. (I am hoping for option #2).

Okay this whole family is a bunch of fucktards. I tried to give benefit of the doubt to the part of the family that wasn't jailed, hoping they put the cage like thing around her grave for an actual reason. But I am thinking is that they can not handle anyone else giving this child love, because not one of them actually cared about this child.

Oh and BlahfuckingBlah about the seclusion of the family and others like them. Maybe these people shouldn't be reproducing if they can't handle being parents.

This article really makes me .......(^^*&^%#&$(!

Im sorry for the people these pictures will offend, but they show what these people did and was allowed to happen to her. These people deserve no pity what so ever! Here are the pictures of the "cage" her family put around her grave so that people who want to give her in death, what she was not given in life can't leave things or put up a headstone.

How can anyone do something like this to a defenseless baby? What did she ever do to deserve that? I just want to pick her up and cradle her in my arms and show her love and kindness. I am so sorry all you knew was pain Brianna.

Here's to hoping there is a Hell, so the sick inhuman monsters who did this to her can roast there for all eternity.

To bad they check mail (or atleast I think they do) incoming to inmates. Because it would be really nice of us to send photos like these along with love letters to the 3 bastards that killed this little girl.

I was thinking of just sending a simple birthday card (Brianna's birthday is valentines day) to mom and dad.  Simple but still expressing that "we" have not forgotten about their daughter that they threw away.
