A Northwestern Ontario man is identified as the pedestrian who was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer vehicle on Highway 17 near White River on Monday.

David Oak, 32, was from Manitouwadge, Ontario Provincial Police say. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No foul play is suspected. There was scattered drizzle at the time of the collision.

Oak was struck by the transport about three kilometres south of the community, said Const. Trevor Tremblay of Superior East detachment in an email to The Sault Star.

"We can't say for absolute certain where Mr. Oak was on the highway or what he was doing out there," he said.

Manitouwadge is about 100 kilometres northwest of White River.

Oak was likely alone when the collision happened, said Tremblay.

An investigation continues. Police want to speak with travellers on Highway 17, south of White River, between 1 and 3 a.m. on Victoria Day. Call 888-310-1122.
