Samantha Joye Hawkins, age 31, died in a car accident in South Jordan, Utah on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 10:01 p.m.

Born, October 13, 1986, in Murray, Utah to Gregory P. Hawkins and Katherine Z Hawkins. She graduated from Riverton High school in 2005 and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Tulsa, Oklahoma Mission from 2008 – 2009.

Samantha worked as a stable hand, care-giver for the elderly, a para-aide for autistic clusters at South Jordan Middle and Providence Middle school; a private nanny for autistic children and currently provided services for adults with disabilities at Goal Home based in South Jordan, Utah. In addition to her work with animals and special needs populations she wrote personal narrative and fiction including a fantasy trilogy, publishing the first of volume, Deadly Seven, in 2015.

Samantha was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She volunteered at the Humane Society of Utah, enjoyed tending nieces and nephews and was always ready to give her family the best foot or body rubs with her tender, healing touch. Sam held a gentle love for all living things, including a deep respect and reverence for the earth and all her creations.

Samantha chose organ donation and was able to donate corneas, bone, skin tissue, ligaments and other inner vital organs.

Survivors include her Father, Gregory P. Hawkins (Arlene Van der Beek Hawkins) of Draper, Utah, her mother, Katherine Z. Hawkins of South Jordan, Utah. And her siblings and their families: Charity C. Hawkins (Jessica Tenney Hawkins and Lily, Jack, Marley, Bobbie) of South Jordan, Utah; Rachael P. Olson (McKenzie, Jackson, Emily, Ethan) of Lehi, Utah, Elizabeth Pratt (Jordan Pratt) of Midvale, Utah, Michal S. Zumbrunnen (Shawn Zumbrunnen and Quinn Zumbrunnen, Sienna Zumbrunnen, Jayah Roush, Henry, Jude, Ozzy) of South Jordan, Utah: Katherine Grace Soelberg (Brandon Soelberg and Blair) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Mary E. Hawkins of South Jordan, Utah, James Hawkins (Julian) of Texas, Joseph Hawkins (Bethania Maria Rojas Hawkins and Liam) of Herriman, Utah, Kaylana R. Hawkins of Orem, Utah; J. Caleb Hawkins (Madison Golding Hawkins) of South Jordan, Utah, Victoria H. Hawkins of South Jordan, Utah

Waiting to greet her when she transitioned were her Grandfathers Ronald J. Zirker, Paul E. Hawkins, Joye S. Hawkins, and uncle Claude T. Hawkins, and her beloved golden retriever Charlie.

Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Monday, June 11, 2018 at the LDS Stake Center, 2450 West 10400 South, South Jordan, Utah. Private viewing will be Sunday evening. Public viewing will be one hour prior to the funeral. In honor of our barefoot Sammie we ask that as many as possible attend the funeral barefoot. Immediately following the funeral you are invited to join us in releasing balloons, please bring your balloon to the north side of the building to participate. Her favorite color was purple but you can bring whatever color is meaningful to you.

Samantha's family offers their condolences to the driver who hit her and his family and hope for their personal healing. They wish to thank the many friends and members of their communities for their outpouring of love and support. Gratitude also goes to the police officers at the scene of the accident, staff at the Medical Examiner's office of Salt Lake, Intake for Organ Donation, and staff at Broomhead Mortuary for their extraordinary sensitive and kind treatment of Samantha's body and family.
