Mrs. Sarah-Jane Shields Bedwell, 36, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, at her home in Nashville, TN. Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Oxford Church of Christ (409 North Lamar Blvd., Oxford, MS). A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:30 p.m., also at the Oxford Church of Christ. Interment to follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Bro. Lendy Bartlett will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah-Jane graduated magna cum laude with a major in dietetics and minor in exercise science from Harding University. Sarah-Jane completed her dietetic internship, with an emphasis on medical nutrition therapy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Sarah-Jane served as a consultant for the food and beverage industry. She appeared on local and national media outlets providing upbeat nutrition related segments. She served as a media spokesperson for the Tennessee Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and was the recipient of the 2013 Media Excellence Award by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Sarah-Jane's first book, "Schedule Me Skinny: Plan to Lose Weight and Keep it Off in Just 30 Minutes a Week," was released in January 2014.

Sarah-Jane traveled around the world experiencing other cultures and cuisine. She studied abroad for a semester during college in the Tuscany region of Florence, Italy, as well as traveled all over Europe, Argentina, Central America, and the Caribbean. Sarah-Jane was inspired to become a food lover and experiment in the kitchen, fusing the southern food of her roots with her travel experiences. Sarah-Jane enjoyed running and completed 4 marathons, cooking meals with her husband, Joe, and walking her two dogs, Inky and Buddy. Sarah-Jane was a follower of Christ and attended the Hillsboro Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school and was active in the Friendspeak Program.

Mrs. Bedwell is survived by her husband, Joe M. Bedwell of Nashville; her parents, Dr. Doug Shields, Jr., and Rebecca B. Shields, both of Oxford; her grandparents, Dr. Doug Shields, Sr., and Cora Beal Shields, both of Oxford; her mother-in law and father-in-law, Joe F. Bedwell and Connie Bedwell, both of Columbia, TN; one sister, Laura A. Shields of Oxford; one brother, Bradley D. (Paige) Shields of Little Rock, AR; one brother-in-law, Adam (Tyler) Bedwell of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Carrie (Drew) McCullough and Mary (David) Fields, both of Columbia; 1 niece; and 2 nephews.

Mrs. Bedwell was preceded in death by her grandparents, Watson Bradley and Bertha Bradley.
