Eric W. Siess, 58, a former resident of La Caada, passed away on July 12 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Chicago, Illinois to Donald and Margot Siess and moved to La Caada with his mother and brother in 1971, residing there until his graduation from La Caada High School in 1975. During high school, he excelled at his studies and participated extensively in the school's music program, playing baritone in the orchestra and marching band and singing in an elite choir group, the Madrigals. He earned his Bachelor of Sciences degree from the University of Southern California in 1979 and earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1983, also from USC. He worked at Northrop Grumman in Redondo Beach for 38 years, where he was a aerospace communications engineer working on ground breaking satellite projects.Eric had numerous interests and passions in his life, including: camping and hiking; traveling; junior league soccer referee; skydiving with 64 jumps logged; Practitioner with the Church of Religious Science in Redondo Beach; singing and playing bass guitar in various church groups; leadership in Boy Scouts and Order of the Arrow; and amateur radio operator. He was an accomplished genealogist, participating in speaking engagements, teaching classes in the South Bay, and generously assisting many with their own research. Above all, Eric was a loving and devoted husband and father, raising two children, Jenny and Don, and his step-daughter, Liliana. It was a great joy for him this last May to attend Don's wedding and Jenny's graduation from Veterinary School.Eric is survived by his mother Margot, wife Susan, daughter Jenny, son Don, step-daughter Liliana, brother Gary, and numerous friends, all of whom loved him dearly.A Celebration of Life will be held on July 30th from 1:00-3:00 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 330 Palos Verdes Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90277.
