Obituary for Emily Katie Grace Slocum
Emily Katie Grace Slocum passed away peacefully at the age of 27, surrounded by family, at University of Utah Hospital, on February 9, 2018.

Emily was born February 20, 1990 in Santa Rosa, California. She grew up in Petaluma and Novato California, Glendale Arizona and Sandy Utah.

Emily loved animals and nature, and is remembered as an adventurous, charismatic, strong, and capable woman. She enjoyed hiking, camping, and volunteering for the cause of human rights.

Emily loved her jobs at For-Shor Company and Chili's Restaurant.

Emily is survived by her mother and father, Deirdre and Steve Slocum; brothers Joshua and Mike (Amber) and sister Annabelle; her grandparents, Don Schaeffer and Wesley Steward (Lynette) as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and nephew.

She is preceded in death by her father Gary Steward and grandmothers Ruth Schaeffer and Loretta Gamel.

There will be a balloon release vigil on her birthday, Tuesday February 20th, 2018 at 5:45pm at Mueller Canyon in Bountiful. Please wear lime green. The organizers could use help with balloons and candles. Also please bring a picture of Emily, if you have one.

Just before her overdose, Emily sought a bed at the WYCA in Salt Lake City but was turned away due to lack of space. We would like to do our part in preventing that from happening to someone else. Any funds left over after burial expenses will be donated to the Utah Chapter of the WYCA.
