FIVE people have been tragically killed as deadly blizzard Storm Stella rips through parts of the United States.

One of the tragic victims was teenager Ava Doris, 16, who crashed her car into a tree after losing control on a snowy road in Connecticut.

The popular teen, from New Hampshire, died in the early hours of Tuesday amid treacherous weather conditions.

Police have confirmed that the killer storm caused her to plough into the tree because of poor visibility and dangerous road conditions.

Friends and family have paid tribute to Ava who was described as 'gentle and 'kind' person who "always had a smile on her face", reports the Concord Monitor.

Her father Tim Doris, who is a 911 dispatcher, shared photos of his daughter on social media.

Ava was a keen athlete and played on her high school's lacrosse and hockey teams.

At least four other people have lost their lives as the storm continues to tear through north-eastern and mid-western parts of America.

Also in Connecticut, an elderly man died after being run over by a snow plow.
