Obituary: Ashley Coral Walker (Halverson)
Ashley Coral Walker (Halverson) left this earthy life at the age of 23 on September 30th, 2017 in Atlanta, Georgia. Ashley died from complications of an unknown illness. Ashley fought so hard and was surrounded by love and her family at the time of her passing.
Ashley Coral Walker (Halverson) was born in Ansbach, Germany on May 11th, 1994. As the oldest child in her family and the daughter of a Soldier, Ashley had the opportunity to meet and touch the lives of so many people around the world. She was able to experience so much in her short life. Ashley had her first passport when she was five days old and loved the adventure of traveling from that time on. She visited so many places in this beautiful world. She always loved to share that she had been to Germany, England, Belgium, France, the Netherlands, Mexico, Czech, Poland, Austria, Crete, Luxembourg and many places throughout the United States.
Ashley had a love of learning.
Ashley attended kindergarten in Yuma Arizona, 1st thru 3rd grade in Hohenfels, Germany, 4th thru 6th grade in Illesheim, Germany, 7th grade in Hohenfels Germany, 8th and 9th grade in Middletown, Rhode Island and 10th thru 12th grade in Enterprise, Alabama.
Starting with grade school, Ashley always worked hard to be a kind and strong student in every class she was a part of. Teachers always adored Ashley. Growing up, Ashley could always be found with her nose in a book, curled up in a corner reading. She read and reread books. Ashley loved how books made her laugh and cry and wish and dream.
Ashley had a talent for the arts.
Ashley played the violin and piano during elementary school. She also loved to be in plays and to sing. She was always part of the drama club or community plays. She played the role of Mrs. Potts in her school's musical production of Beauty and the Beast and had roles in Seussical the Musical and The Sound of Music, to name a few.
In junior high, Ashley joined the school band and chose the saxophone to be her instrument. One of Ashley's biggest high school joys was being part of the Enterprise Alabama Big Blue Band. It was her biggest commitment and her source for friends and belonging. She became the saxophone section leader and always took care of those she led.
During high school, Ashley was a member of the National Honor Society, the Civil Air Patrol, the drama club, and the school newspaper. For summer fun and work, Ashley was a lifeguard on Fort Rucker, Alabama. Ashley loved to write. She excelled at writing and editing. Ashley shared these talents writing for the school paper and helping her friends with papers and homework. As a teenager, Ashley did a lot of service through her church- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She helped in making blankets for people in need, put together hygiene kits, and while serving as a youth leader made sure others were always included.
Ashley graduated from high school in May of 2012. She was Valedictorian of her senior class and graduated with multiple scholarships.
Ashley attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah. She loved Logan and the connection of attending the school where her parents met. Ashley always said that Logan felt like home. Ashley graduated from USU in May 2016 with a Bachelors Degree in English. Her emphasis was writing and editing. While at USU she interned as an editor to compile works of USU students.
Ashley met her true love and soul mate Jonathan Walker at USU. Ashley had a love of dressing up and planning costumes, so, in perfect Ashley style, her first date with her Jonny was attending a masquerade ball.
Ashley and Jonny wasted no time in knowing they wanted to be together. They got engaged at the top of the Seattle Space Needle in December 2014 and married 3 months later on March 7th, 2015. Ashley and Jonny were best friends and their joy was to be together as much as possible. They added joy to their life when they adopted Ashley's second-best friend Zero, an incredible dog. Zero was Ashley's constant and inseparable companion while Jonny was at work and brought incredible joy into both their lives. Zero misses her terribly.
Ashley was a self-proclaimed nerd. She loved digital games, board games and excelled at Magic the Gathering. The more complicated the game rules and details, the more she loved it. Ashley was incredibly creative and loved to craft. She came up with amazing new ideas and inventions that she was so excited about and wanted to share with the world. Her creativity was reflected in her craft activities like knitting (which she frequently did for others), Perler bead creations, and especially in her story writing.
Ashley loved beautiful things and the beauty of this world. Ashley was beyond patriotic. She loved her country and its flag and everything it stands for. She was so proud of her father being a member of the military and she wore the title of military BRAT with pride. She loved her Heavenly Father and her Savior so much. She represented them with her unceasing kindness and caring for others.
At the time of her passing Ashley and Jonny had recently moved to Atlanta, Georgia to start their newest adventure together. Ashley's greatest joys were to be with her husband, her dog, her parents, her brother and sister, and Jonny's family. Ashley was never shy about telling those she loved that she "loved them so much". She never left any doubt about how she felt.
Ashley's amazing sense of humor, beautiful voice, and kind heart will be missed by all who know and love her.
Ashley is survived by her husband Jonathan Walker, Scott and Karyn Halverson her parents, Joshua Halverson (brother), Taylor Halverson (sister), Sheldon and Cindy Walker (mother and father-in-law) and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bryce, Spencer, Jeremy, Joshua, Braden, Ashley, and Emily Walker, and Zero.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Lundstrom Park LDS Ward 1260 N. 1600 E. Logan, Utah.. Burial will follow at the Logan City Cemetery.
