The husband of a second-grade teacher and mother who was found dead in her Massachusetts home Sunday was arrested on Tuesday and charged with her murder, PEOPLE confirms.

Andrew MacCormack, 29, was arrested at Revere police headquarters in the death of his wife, Vanessa MacCormack, 30, authorities announced in a statement.

The state's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner made preliminary findings that the young mother had suffered a blunt force injury to the head, sharp force injuries to the neck, and asphyxiation, the statement says.

"Evidence suggested that the killer made concerted efforts to clean up the crime scene and dispose of related items," the statement says.
