Two 17-year-old girls died Saturday after a crash on a service road outside the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office said the girls, from New Prague, were driving on a gravel service road west of Highway 41 at about 7 a.m. when they left the road and crashed into some trees, FOX 9 reports.
The teens were unresponsive when the fire department arrived, and the passenger was confirmed dead at the scene.
The driver died in Hennepin County Medical Center after being airlifted to the hospital. The Sheriff's Office said drugs and alcohol weren't factors in their deaths, but said neither was wearing seat belts.
Although their identities haven't been officially confirmed, the two girls have been named on social media as Taylor Wieland and Cheyenne Mikkelson.
Mikkelson's father confirmed her death on Facebook Saturday, saying his "heart and soul are being broken again every second," before thanking everyone for their "love, kind words and prayers."
A GoFundMe page was set up to help the Mikkelson family with the funeral costs, which has so far raised more than $1,300.
Taylor Wieland's Facebook page lists her as being a parking attendant at the Renaissance Festival.
A GoFundMe page has also been created to help her family pay for the funeral, it has so far raised over $1.800.
"Today has been a rough day for the Wieland and Mikkelson family," Wieland's GoFundMe page says. "We lost 2 beautiful girls today. They were taken too soon."
The two girls were students at New Prague Area Schools, the Scott County Sheriff said.
