A Florida man fatally shot and killed his wife and a well-intentioned neighbor who was trying to break up an argument between the couple Saturday, police said.

Placido Moreno-Torres, 47, and his wife were arguing outside their Lehigh Acres home when their newlywed neighbor Ricardo Vaca, 20, tried to mediate the altercation.

That's when Moreno-Torres opened fire, killing Vaca and his wife, Amparo Moreno, 44, the News-Press reported.

Moreno-Torres fled on foot but was caught by police late Saturday.

Authorities said that Vaca's attempt to end the argument was his only involvement in the couple's affairs.

Vaca's Facebook page indicates that he got married about three weeks ago and that he and his wife, Alma, were expecting a child.

"She's going to be a girl," Nestor Martinez Vaca, the victim's cousin, told the newspaper. "They were happily married and he was an amazing person, always happy and trying to make people smile, a good student and an amazing son."

"We as a family are devastated," he said.

Moreno-Torres was charged with two counts of homicide and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
