ACTOR Jim Carrey has revealed he's "deeply saddened" at news his ex-girlfriend, 28-year-old Cathriona White, committed suicide just days after their break up.

The make-up artist's body was found by two friends at her Sherman Oaks, California home on Monday night, less than a week after she and Carrey called it quits, TMZ reported.

The Truman Show star said he felt like he was "hit with a lightning bolt" after hearing about the death of his "sweet Cathriona."

"She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled," the 53-year-old actor told Entertainment Tonight in a statement.
"My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her."

Los Angeles Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter told The Irish Independent that "the final cause of death has not been confirmed, pending an autopsy." An examination of White's body is due to be carried out on Tuesday.

But law enforcement sources told TMZ that officers found pills next to White's body and believe she died from a drug overdose.

The Irish beauty also left a suicide note addressed to Carrey, referencing their breakup on September 24.
On the day of the split, White shared a troubling message on her Twitter account: "Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest."

The day before the couple called it quits, White shared a photo of flowers on Instagram, with a foreboding excerpt from poet W.B. Yeats' play, The Land of Heart's Desire.

"Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, For I would ride with you upon the wind, Run on the top of the dishevelled tide, And dance upon the mountains like a flame. W.B. Yeats," she wrote.
