A California motorist who failed to stop at an intersection was killed Tuesday evening when her car slammed into a tractor-trailer, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper said Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Melissa Soto, 23, of Pomona, Calif., who was pronounced dead at the scene, the Tarrant County medical examiner's website reported Wednesday.

Two passengers in her vehicle were taken to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance in Fort Worth with injuries that are not life-threatening, authorities said.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

DPS troopers responded to the wreck about 8 p.m. Tuesday at Old Blue Mound Road and Farm Road 156.

"A white Dodge Neon was traveling west on Blue Mound Road when for as yet undetermined reason, the driver failed to stop at the intersection," DPS Sgt. Lonny Haschel said Wednesday in an email.

The car hit the side of the northbound semi, authorities said.

The wreck is still under investigation.
