The Calgary Police Service has released a surveillance video still of a suspect car and descriptions of two possible suspects in connection to Wednesday night's fatal stabbing of Masqood Ahmed.
At about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, officers were called to the 4700 block of Westwinds Drive N.E.
According to police, business owner, 55-year-old Maqsood Ahmed and an employee left his store with a bag containing approximately $70,000 in cash.
Friends say that Maqsood Ahmed was the victim of a stabbing on Wednesday night. They say he was a good man who was always willing to help in the community.
The CPS Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal stabbing in northeast Calgary that claimed the life of a man in his 50s. They say the crime was likely motivated by money.
The pair was approached by two unknown males and an altercation occurred. As a result, the man was stabbed and the bag taken.
"Yes we believe this was a targeted incident. The individual was targeted as a result of leaving his business premises with cash," said S/Sgt. Colin Chisholm of the CPS Homicide Unit.
The victim was taken to hospital where he later died. An autopsy conducted by the Chief Medical Examiner has determined Ahmed's death was the result of the stabbing.
The first suspect is described as:
Black male
Believed to be in his twenties
Approximately 178 cm (5'10") tall
Having a lean muscular build
Long hair
Wearing dark clothing and white shoes
The second suspect is described as
Black male
Believed to be in his twenties
Approximately 183 cm (6') tall
Having a medium to heavy build
Short hair
Wearing a light coloured hoodie under a dark three quarter length leather jacket
Police believe the suspects were driving a dark coloured Toyota Solora. The two-door car is believed to be an older model, possibly from 1999-2003.
"We will be going through all the video and will be determining whether anything is applicable to be released sometime in the future," said Chisholm.
Maqsood Ahmed, a husband and father of four, came to Calgary from Pakistan 15 years ago and owns a money transfer business.
Abdul Quadeer, a family friend, remembers Ahmed as a very friendly guy. "This guy was one of the best friends of us, a longtime friend. He was a very good guy, very religious."
Quadeer says his friend was always active and helpful in the community as well. "He was a very very friendly guy and he was very helpful for the community. If someone called in the middle of the night, he was going there to help. He was always there for people, you know."
He adds that the community is now stepping up to support the family in their time of loss.
The CPS Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation and is looking to speak with anyone who has information about the stabbing.
