Jury deliberations began Tuesday in the trial of two young men charged in the death of a man in a street fight outside a party in the South Bay.
Uriel Alejandro Sanchez, 21, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 20-year-old Joseph Baars last Oct. 10. Co-defendant Anthony Talavera, 19, is charged with assault.
Patrol officers responded to a 911 call in the 400 block of Krista Court around 2:15 a.m. and found Baars lying injured in front of a home, according to Chula Vista police. He had suffered face and head injuries and died at the scene.
Witnesses said Baars got into an argument with other partygoers at the residence, sparking a brawl.
The nature of the argument that preceded the brawl was unclear.
